Specification of Letters Patent. fatented Feb, 1916;
Application filed April 6,1915. 7 Serial No. 19,614.
To all who/1t it may concern Be it known that-I, ToMAso D1 TERLIZZI,
a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Envelop-Attaching Clips, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to'en'velop attaching devices, and more particularly to the class of envelop attachingclips for parcelpost packages. Y
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein the letter containedwithin an envelop can be securely fastened to a parcelpost package so as to be safe in transit therewith without possibility of the loss of .the same when the package is bei-ng'carriedin the mails from one point to another.
Another ob ect of the lnvention s the provision of a device of this character which is extremely simple in construction,-
readily and easily applied to both the cord or string of the parcel post package and the envelop, thoroughly reliable and efficient' in its purpose, and inexpensive in manufacture. I
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated inthe accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawing: Figurel is a plan View of a parcel post package and envelop show- "ing the device constructed in accordance with the invention attaching the envelop to the package. Fig. 2 is a perspective iew of the device detached. 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing. 1
Referring tothe drawing in detail, A designates a parcel post package, which is wrapped and tied in the usual manner through the medium of a string or cord B, while the envelop C containing a letter-is attached by the device hereinafterfully described.
The device comprises a clip formed from a single piece 5 made from metal provided with widened terminals or ends ,6 and 7 respectively, and is folded at 8 to provide a bight for receiving'a stretch of the string or cord B, while formed inthe ends 6 and UNITED STATES PnTEnToFFIoE. v
7 are spaced transverse slots 9 through;
which are adapted to be trained bendable The device is attached to the envelop by.
passing the tongue 10 on the folded end of the clip through the front and back-of the envelop C,-the said tongue being guidedthrough the slots 9 and 11 as ityis trained through the body of the envelop, while the other tongue is passedthrough the sealing flap D and the back of the said envelop C,
and this tongue is guided through the slots 9 provided therefor, the application of the i clip being clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. 1
It willbe apparentfthat the sealing flap D ofthe envelop (Iv is securely fastened-to the body of the said envelop, and the open' end of the envelop is; fastened closed by the clip which is carried -upon the string B trained about the parcel post package A so that the envelop will be a part thereof for the carriage of the same through the mail.[ What is claimed is:- Y 1. A device of the class described come prising a strip having enlarged terminals provided with spaced slots, the said strip being bent near one terminal to form a bight for recelvlnga cord, and means cut from the strip at the terminals thereof-and engaged with the slots for fastening the strip to an envelop "at twopoints thereof.
2. A device of, the class described comprising a strip having enlarged terminals provided with spaced slots, the said strip 'bight'for receiving a cord, and bendable In testimony whereof I afli'x' my si gnatnre inpresence of two Witnesses.
TOMASO DI TERLIZZII.
being bent near one terminal to form a tongues out from the strip at the terminals thereof and adapted to be threaded through the slots forthe fastening of the strip to an envelop at tWo points thereof.
Witnesses:
Vmcmrzo CAIRIVOL, GUIRTo GIAooBBE;
