This invention relates to selecting systems and is particularly adapted for use in printing telegraph receivers although not exclusively limited to such use, and its'principal object is'to provide an improved system of this {typewherein one selection maybe retainedand another selection produced simultane'ously. To this end a system with electromagnetic devices for effecting the actuation ofselective apparatus is provided, with means'for altering the circuit arrangements ;.of both the devices and the apparatus, \vhercby the cause and effect of their'operation may overlap.
Theabove and vention will be fully set forth in the following description and claims, and will-be more readilyunderstood by reference to the accompanying drawing in which the system is shown diagrammatically.
The transmitting and preliminary selecting apparatus with .which the system of this invention is adapted to coiiperate, may be of any suitable type, one .such being that disclosed in Patent No. 1,086,899, dated Febru- 'ary 10, 1914, to' Oscar A. Danielson. In this patent are shown means forselectively closing any one of six second'a ry circuits.
The six secondary selecting circuits may be represented by the six conductors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and it is by the completion of one or more of the'first five and the sixth of them that-a selection is accomplished. In each of the conductors 1 to 6 inclusive is a relay 11.

Whenever any of the circuits including conductors 1 to 5 inclusive is completed, the

Certain of the selecting relays .11 to 15 and corresponding magnets 21 to 25 having been actuated and held, as hereinbefore described; and whatever operations are to be controlled by magnets 21 to 25 having been initiated, the sixth circuit including conductor 6 is closed. Relay 16 attracts'its armatures causing the completion of an energizmg circuit for its magnet 26 and a holding circuit for itself.
Relay 26 attracts its armature 50, where- 'upon a circuit is completed from grounded battery 40, overlap relay 30, armature 50 and movable contact of magnet 26 to ground, causing the overlap relay 30 to attract its armatures 31 and 32. The previouslytraced holding circuit for relays 11 to 16 is broken at the fixedand movable contacts of magnet 1 26, whereupon the selecting relays release -their armature's and return to normal ready to receive the next selection. The operated magnets 21 to and magnet 26, however, do not become inoperatively. decncrgized, due to the previously described holding circuit.
