To all whom it may concern Be it known that 3:, Crisis li eline, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Havana, in the county of Sargent and Eitate of l lort i Dakota, have invented certain new and useful lmproven'ients in Tatting-Shuttleinding Devices; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and est-act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which It appertalns to, make and use the same,
Mv invention has for its object toprovide end, it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the szn eral views.
Referring to the drawings igure lis a plan view or the tatting shuttle winding device with a tatting shuttle applied thereto in working position, the spool from which the thread is wound onto the shuttle being indicated by means of broken lines; 2
"is a side elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 1, some parts being broken away; and Fig. 3 is a view corresponding to 1, with the exception that the device is shown in a position to release the tatting shuttle, said shuttle being shown in section.
The numeral 1 indicates a U-shape metallic frame, the transverse portion of which is tempered to afford a spring that yieldingly draws the prongs of the frame toward each other. The end portions of the prongs of the frame 1 afford a pair of handles by which the device is held, and inward of these handles said rongs are bulged laterally outward to afford clearance for a tatting shuttle 2. In one side of the shuttle 2, and at the axis thereof, is formed a relatively shallow seat 3 adapted to receive a trunnion i rigidly secured to one of the prongs of the frame 1 and extending transversely between the said prongs.
Journaled in the other prong of the frame 1 and in a bracket 5 rigidly secured thereto is a hand crank 6 axially alined with the trunnion i and having a clutch 7. ihis clutch is removably seated in a pair of diametrically opposite perforations 8 formed in the body of the shuttle 2 on the opposite side from the seat 3. Obviously, the spring tension of the frame 1 yieldingly holds the trunnion 4 within the seat 3 and the clutch 7 within the seats 8, and by means of the crank 6 the shuttle 2 may be rotated on said trunnion within the frame 1. To remove the shuttle from the frame 1, it is only necessary to separate the prongs of said frame under their spring tension a distance sufficient to withdraw the trunnion 4c and clutch 7 from their respective seats in the shuttle A spool holder 9 and a thread tension device 10 are secured to the same prong of the frame 1 as the trunnion 4i, but on the opposite side therefrom. As shown, the thread tension device 10 is constructed from a flat piece of spring metal in the form of a compound curve, between which tension device and the adjacent portion of the frame 1 the thread Y runs. An adjusting screw 11 is passed through the intermediate ortion of this tension device and has screw thread engagement with the frame 1. To prevent rotation of the tension device 10 on the frame 1, the rear end portion thereof is reduced at 12 and passed through a perforation 13 in said frame. In the upper edge portion of the tension device 10, forward of the screw 11, is a forwardly and downwardly inclined slot 1 which affords a guide for the thread Y in passing from the spool Z, on the spool holder 9, to the tension device 10. From the guide 14. the thread Y is extended forward between the tension device 10 and the f nine 1. The thread Y, from the tension device 10, is extended forward around the transverse portion of the frame 1 through an open guide 15 formed therein and attached to the body of the shuttle 1. The guide 15 is in direct alinement with the engaging surfaces of the spring prongs at each end of the shuttle 2, and under the rotation of said shuttle by the crank 6 the thread Y is drawn between these spring prongs and wound on the body of the shuttle 2.
What I claim is:
1. In a device for winding a tatting shuttie, the combination of a U-shape frame having handle forming prongs, and a crank journaled on said frame for rotating said shuttle therein, said crank adapted to be interlocked with said shuttle by the closing movement of said prongs and to be release therefrom by the opening movement thereof.
2. In a device for winding a tatting shutthe, the combination of a iJ-shape frame having normally spring opened handle forming prongs and a crank journaled on said frame for rotating said shuttle therein, said crank adapted to be interlocked with said shuttle by the closing movement of said.

In a device for winding a tatting shuttle, the combination of a U-shape frame having normally spring opened handle forming prongs, means for detachably journaling said shuttle to one of said prongs, and a crank journaled in the other of said prongs and'having a clutch adapted to be interlocked with said shuttle by the closing movement of said prongs and to be released therefrom by the opening movement thereof.

trunnion on one of the prongs of said frame,
said shuttle being removably journaledon said trunnion, a crank journaled on the other prong of said frame and having a clutch separably connected to said shuttle, said shuttle adapted to be removed from said trunnion and clutch by the separation of the prongs of said frame, a thread tension device on said frame, and a thread guide at the transverse portion of said frame.
6. In a device for winding a tatting shuttle, the combination of a U-shape frame, a trunnion on one of the prongs of said frame, said shuttle being removably journaled on said trunnion, a crank journaled on the other to be removed from said trunnion and prong of said frame and having a clutch separably connected to said shuttle, said' shuttle adapted to be removed from said trunnion and clutch by the separation of the prongs of said frame, a thread tension device on said frame, a thread guide at the transverse portion of said frame, and a spool holder on said frame. 50
7. In a device for winding a tatting shuttle, the combination of a'U-shape frame, the prongs of which are yieldingly drawn toward each other, a trunnion on one of the prongs of said frame,said shuttle being removably journaled on said trunnion, and a. crank journaled on the other prong of said frame and having a clutch separably connected to said shuttle, said shuttle adapted clutch by the lateral separation of the prongs of said frame. 1
8. In a device for winding a tatting shuttle, the combination of a U-shape frame, the transverse portion of which is in the form 6 of a springtending to draw the prongs of said frame toward each other, a trunnionon one of the prongs of said frame, said shuttle being removably journaled on said trunnion,
a crank journaled on the other prong of said 70 frame and having a clutch separably connected to said shuttle, said shuttle adapted to be removed from said trunnion and clutch by the separation of the prongs of. said frame, a spool holder and a thread tension device on said frame, and a thread guide at the transverse portion of said frame.
