Application filed November 10,1914; .seria11vo.e71;as3.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, RYU I SATO and TANEI-IISA TANAKA, subjects of the Emperor which may be easily and quickly manipu- I lated for the purpose of connecting together the adjacent edge portions of a garment or article of apparel.
The parts of the fastener are so arranged as to effectually hold or secure the edge portions of the garment and the parts are also susceptible of easy and quick manipulation for the purpose of disconnecting the adja cent portions of the garment.
With the above object in view the fastener comprises a flexible member having in the vicinity of its opposite edges rows of members having guideways provided at the inner ends thereof. The terminal members at one end of the rows have the guideways closed at one end and the terminal members at the opposite end of the rows constitute securing devices and are devoid of the said guideways. Stud members are mounted upon the edge portions of the garment or article of apparel and are adapted to move in the guideways. ranged in rows and the terminal studs at one end of the rows are in the form of securing devices adapted to cooperate with the securing devices hereinbefore mentioned whereby the parts are effectually held together while the said securing devicesiare in engagement. In the accompanying drawing :'Figure 1 is a plan view of the edge portions of an article of apparel having the studs applied thereto and showing the flexible member partly in perspective with the guide members mounted thereon. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view in detail on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a under-plan view of the guide members.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing the garment is indicated at 1 and as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing studs 2 are mounted in the vicinity of the edge of the of the drawing.
The said studs are also argarment. The said studs are arranged in rows and the terminal stud 3 oftherow is in the form of a stud usuallyemployed as one of the members of a glove fastener. The studs other than the stud 3 are all alike and e figENrorrron.
a description of one will suflice. Each stud 2 comprises a head 4: and a shank 5. In the form of stud as shown in Fig. 2 the head 1 and shank 5 are integral and are formed from a single piece of sheet metal. The end of the shank 5 is spread as at 6 and is secured against the side of the garment 1. A plate 7 is mounted upon the shank 5 adj acent the head 4 and bears against the. opposite side of the garmentl.
The fastener also includes a flexible strip or body 8 having mounted thereon in rows guide members 9. The terminal units 10 of the guide members 9 are of the usual socket form of glove fastener devices and are adapted to cooperate with the studs 3 for securing the strip 8 with relation to the end portions of the garment 1. The guide members 9 consist of head portions 11 and shank portions 12 the said shank portions passing through the strip 8 as best shown in Fig. 2 The head portions 8 may be plain or ornamented as desired and the said head portions lie beyond the outer side of the strip 8. Guide plates 13 are mounted at the inner ends of the shanks 12 and are located at the inner side of the strip 8. The plates 13 are provided with spaced guide flanges 14. As indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing the space between the adjacent edges of the guide flanges 14 upon the terminal guide member 9 is closed by an additional flange 15 the object of which will be described hereinafter.
Therefore it will be seen that simple and eflicient securing devices are provided for connecting the edge portions of a flexible strip with the edge portions of a garment and that the parts may be easily and quickly manipulated when being connected together or detached from each other.
stud and bearing against the head and shank at their point of juncture.
2. A fastener comprising a member having spaced guide flanges, a stud having a' head of greater diameter than the space between the flanges and a shank less in diameter than the space between the flanges said stud being adapted to be received between the flanges and a flange plate having 10 an opening which snugly receives the shank,
