' of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy of the spring motor type and the principal object of the invention is to provide a toy representing two men grinding a knife at a grind stone, one man holding the knife and bringing it into engagement withthe grind stone and the second man turning the grind stone.
Another object of the invention is to provide the spring motor with improved means for oscillating a rocking lever connected with one arm of the figure holding the knife so that the arm will be caused to swing up and down and bring the knife into and out of engagement with the grind stone.
Another object of the invention is to so mount the figure turning the grind stone that the figure will swing from the hips as the arms move with the turning grind stone,

Another object of the invention is to so construct this toy that the same maybe formed of sheet metal with the exception of the gear wheels, axles and pivot rods. p This invention is illustrated inthe accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the toy in side elevation, Fig.v 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 looking from the opposite side of the toy, view showing the toy in end elevation, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the lever forming part of the toy and connected with'the arms of the figure holding the knife by means of a draw rod.
The platform or base 10 is formed of sheet metal and carries the table 11 which has its supporting legs 12 provided with teeth .13 connected platform also carries the frame 14: of the spring motor which is positioned adjacent the table 11 intermediate the length thereof.
The grind stone 15 is rigidly .mounted upon the driven shaft 16 rotatably supported by the upper pontion of'frame 14 and is positioned over the table 11 with its lower portion extending through an opening formed inthe table, The driven shaft car- I this grind with the platform. The shaft 22 is also provided with a small gear 23 which meshes with the large gear 24 carried by the driving shaft 25, the driving shaft being provided with a spring 26 intermediate its length within the frame 14 and with a turning key 27 for winding the spring and with an arm 28 at its opposite end provided with fingers 29. It will thus be-seen that the spring motor will be wound by means of .key 27 and that when the key is released the motor will rotate the'shaft 16 thus rotating the I grind stone.
It should also be noted that stone may be provided with a facing 30 of emery so that when in use sparks will be caused to be struck ofl.
The standing figurefil has its arms. 32 pivotally connected with thebody portion by means of pin 33 and has one arm provided 35 is connected. This draw rod has its lower end bent to form a stem or pin 36 whichpasses through openings in the arms 37 of the lever or treadle 38, the lever being positioned beneath the arm 28 and pivotally with a tongue 34 w1th which the drawrod mounted upon the rod 39 carried by the legs of the table and passing through the openlugs 40 in the treadle.
It shouldv be noted that the body portion of this'figure 31 is in-v clined forwardly slightly to assume the natural position of a person grinding a. knife 41 held in the hand ofthefigure. Itshould also be noted that as the driving-shaft.-
rotates the fingers 29 of the arm 28 will en'- gage the lever 38 and cause the levertolloscillate thus swinging the arm from the position shown in full lines in Figs. .1 and 2 to the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. i

A toy comprising a support, a table carried by said support, a motor positioned upon said support adjacent said table and including a driving shaft extending beneath the-table and a driven shaft extending above the table, a-figure placed in a seated position adjacent said table and provided with a pivotally mounted body portion and with pivotally mounted arms extending in front of the body portion, a grind stone carried by said driven shaft and provided with alhan- 'dle cpnnected with the hands of the seated figure to" impart motion to the figure as the grindstone rotates, a second figure placed in a standing position adjacent said table and having its arms pivotally mounted and extending to hold an article above said grind stoneya lever pivotally mounted beneath said table and having its free end portion extending toward said standing figure to one side thereof, a draw rod connecting the free end portion of said lever with the arms of said standing figure, and an arm e 1 T said driving shaft and provided with a k 15 extending to engage said lever said driva convenient support such as a table or other y means of key 27. Upon releasing the keying shaft rotates to oscillate the lever and cause the arms of the standing figure to be moved toward and away from said grind stone.
