of i. ermoms, have invented e new and useful Measui'iilg evoe for Tanks, of Which the foliovving is specification,
The present invention epperteiges to meesurng; @T evees for mieke, and aims i-o provide e novel and improved means for indicating' the ammini; of gesoiene, kei-oseille or oher 11C uid Within :i tank reservoir or other con# miner, whereby it is possible eteil times for the geweld-fmt to oheeive in e convenient mei-nner, the emouuof iiquid Within. or the amount discharged. fromA the tenia, and. whereby a pedetermined queniiy of liquid. may be run into the tank, es when piu chasing or filling the tank by :i given iii/lit of measure.
It is oise vvihiii the seopegoi the invention eo provide oppiienoe of the motero indieaed which is extremely ,simple in expensive in consiliuotioii, Whieh be readily appiie to vii-rione eenige, reserevoirf, and o'her coneiners, and Whiehis 'so'eiml pie, piaetioei ohci ei'eien; @pei-ao.

die poseci eentieiiy withiofuiie teni: and hee its ends engaged through mthe upper end lower enfle of the tank. A float 5, preferebiy in ehe form of a hollow sheet metal membe, is disposed for verticali movement vviehiii the meek l, and is slidebiy carried by "che tubulin' member 4, the float 5 having a sleeve 6 engaged therethrough which is slidabie upon the 'tubular member 4. This will guide the zioe; for true vertical movement. The bottom oi the Hoet is preferably conoafved io prevent the float hindering the flow of iiquid into or: oui) of the tank when the Hoet is lowered adjacent; the botiom or lower" end of the milk.
A doubieoi bar 8 having its ends disposed dovmwm'fiiy, has iis iimbs Z passing sliciobiy chfough che upper end of J4ehe tank 1 ai; opposite sides of the tubular member e,

rlhe use of the measuring device is not limited to motor vehicle supply tanks, but it is apparent that the invention-may be ernployed in various capacities, and that appropriate changes in details can be made, within the scope of what iS'cIaimed hereinafter, without departing from the spirit of the invention. l
A variation of the invention is illustrated in Figs. 4e and 5. ln Figs. 4c and 5, a tank,
lower ends of the tank 12, and a reservoir oreontainer 12 is illustrated, the same having the lower inlet and outlet pipes 13 and 1d. A vertical tubular member or pipe 15 is disposed Within the tank 12 andhas its ends engaged through the u per and v oat 16 is disposed Within the tank 12 for vertical movement. This oat 16. has a sleeve 17 engaged therethrough which is slidable upon the tubular member 15 to guide the float for vertical movement, and the float 16 has a fin 18 projecting radially from its periphery4 and having its free end received by an upright guide 19 carried by one side of the tank l2. The n 18in Working within the glide 19 prevents the ioat 16 from rotating. i
chain or other flexible element 20 has one endv attached to the float 16 and passes upwardly through an Aaperture 20 provided in the upper end or top of the tank. lhe chain or flexible element 20 passes over a pulley Wheel or guide 2l mounted for rotation u on the vupper end or top of the tank a jacent the aperture 20', or between the apertureQO and the upper end ot' the tubu i, i'yoeeo ized at length, since they will suggest them-- selves to those skilled and versed in the art,
it also being noted that the invention is susceptihle to various alterations and changes in construction, when adapting it to various environments.
The device may "he employed .advantam` geously in garages, and the likafor enabling a predetermined quantity ci liquid :tue/l, er other liquid, to vhe dispensed, as will he parent, `4 g i I Instead. of having the sealeleeatedimma ditely belovv'thetank, it may he loeat i f any other suitable position, andthe pe or indicator element may heoperably-com nected to (the doet in variousmenners,
Within the scope of what is claimed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention., Having thus described the invention, what is claimed las new is: f
1. ln an appliance of the character tiescrihed, a tank, a tubular member projecting upwardly from the bottom thereof, a
float slidable lupon 'said tubular meinber- Within the tank, and a member extending through andrnovahle vertically' Within tubular membery for operating'an indicatingdevice from its-'lower end and having at its upper portion means operatively connecting with the lioat. I
2. lin an appliance of the character describedha tank, a tubular member projecting upwardly trorn the bottom thereof, a ioat slidahle upon said tubular within the tank, a rod slidable through id tubular member for operating an indio device from its lower-end, and a har tached to the iioat and to the upper end of said rod.
ln testimony that l claim the foregoing/J as my own, l have hereto axed my signa1 ture 1n the presence off/two Witnesses.
