J. A. HURLEY.

UNITED STATES PATENT omit-3E,
JOSEPH A. HURLEY, OF NE'W YORK, N. Yf
BOOKBINDERS TRUCK AND TABLEH To all whom itma'y concem: v I
Be it known that'I, JOSEPH A. HURLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Xew' York city, in the county of New York and State of New Yorlghave invented new and useful Improvements in Bookbinders Trucks and Tables, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to acombined truck and table designed especially to be used by bookbinders and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
' An wobject of the invention is to eliminate the present procedure of carrying-the loose leaves in abindery from the place where the leaves are cut, to the stitcher or the transporting of stacks of these leaves on a truck and then transferring them to the stitchers table. 1 Another object of the invention is to provide in a table ofthe character indicated means for'supporting the stack of leaves in an inclined position with relation -to a horizontal whereby the leaves willbe retained in proper position upon the table as the table is moved and the edges of the leaves will be sufficiently separated to enable the binder to readily grasp a signature of leaves to remove the same'from the stack and table.
With these objects'in View the table comprises a frame mounted upon casters and having a bottom panel mounted thereon, the 7 upper surface 'of which is in an inclined position with relation to ahorizontal. A shelf is adjustably mounted with relation to the said panel and may be projected beyond the forward edge thereof to be used as a means for abutting or squaring the ends of the leaves up preparatory to stapling or fastening them together in theusual manner.
A back and side frame is mounted upon the first mentioned frame and carries back and side panels. The back panel is provided with a surface which is'disposed at 'an angle approximately equal to a right angle with relation to the upper surface of the bottom panel but the said surface of the back panel is inclined at an angle with relation to a perpendicular erected from a horizontal line.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combined truck and table. Fig. 2- is a transverse sectional view of the same. F ig. 3 is a detail sectional view of parts of the frame of the table.
The table comprises a bottom frame which includes the vertical standards 1 formed of v Specification of Letters Patent.

mounted at the upper erids 1. Suitable braces 4 are inteip the intermediate portions am and the cross bars 2'. The at their lower endsj'oimiiakd A bottom panel 6 is-nioui1 cross bars 2 and the sai with an upper surface \vliif u relation to a horizontal. The vided at its forward edge with which is slidably mounted said shelf 8 carries at its i screw 9 which may be ti under side of the'panel' shelf may be held at a 8 is provided at its under-s1 e an in vicinity of its outer edgeh'with a kfiob which may be used as a handle grip 'fbi' filming the said shelf.
A frame is superimposed upon the frame of which the standards 1 and cross bars '2 are components and the said superimposed frame comprises rods 11 which fit at their lower ends in the upper portions of some of the standards. 1 and serve as means for bracing or strengthening. the standards 1. The rods 11 are held in position in the standards 1 by means of bolts 12 which pass transversely through the rods and standards and also serve as means for securing one end of the braces 4. Cross rods 13 connect the upper ends of the rods 11 together and a back panel l t is secured at one edge to one of the cross rods 13 and at its other edge to one of the cross bars 2 as is shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The panel 14 is provided with a forward surface which is at a right angle to the upper surfaceof the panel 6 and the forward surface of the panel 14.- is inclined at an acute, angle with relation to a perpendicular erected from a horizontal.
A side panel 15 is mounted upon the rods 11 and 13 at one end of the table and the lower edge of the said panel 15 is connected with one of the cross bars 2 as best indicated in Fig. 1.
In use a stack of leaves is placed upon the upper surface of the bottom panel 6 and the edges of the said leaves bear against the forward surface of the back panel 1. In view of the fact that the forward surface of the panel 14 and the upper surface of the panel 6 are approximately at' a right angle with relation to each other, the stack of leaves will be heldwith their edges in aline ment but the said 's'tack is inclined slightly at an angle with relation to a-perpendicular erected from a horizontal. 7 Therefore, as the tableiis moved over the floor by trundling the same upon the caster wheels,.5, the stack of leaves will remain in position upon the table, and when it-fis-desired to remove the leaves for stapling or otherwise securingthem together, the signature of leaves removed from the stack may be abutted-up at their edges upon the upper surface of the shelf 8 whereby the edges of the leaves re- 7 moved are brought in proper position with relation to each other preparatory to stapling or securing them together. 4
From the above description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that a" combined truck and table especially adapted to be used by'boolc binders is provided and that the said table is a simple and durable structure and may be conveniently used for transporting the leaves from place to placewithout danger or the leaves falling from thetable or becomin disarranged with relation tq each other; aving described the invention what is claimed s:-
1. A table comprising a wheel mounted right angle to the upper surface of the bottom panel. v
2. A table comprising a wheel mounted frame including vertically disposed hollow standards, a superimposed frame including rods which fit-in these said standards, meansfor securing the rods in the standards, a
bottom panel mounted upon the -'frame and having an upper surface inclined at an angle with relation to a horizontal, a back panelmounted upon the said rods and the said frame and havin the forward surface indined at an ang e with relation to a' perpendicular erected from a horizontal. In testimony whereof I a-fiix my signature in presence of two witnesses. l
