Applicationfileddhrg-ustfi;1914i. seriarNa. sss sose' To all whom it-may concern Be it. knownthat L vMARTIN IIENDRIOK S N,-a citizen of'the United-States,--residing;- at Globe,-in the county "of Gila andState of Arizona, have invented new and: useful Improvements in Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
Thi invention is animproved pump;
especially adaptedfor useasan-irrigating pump and for operation by a windmill,
steam or other engine, but also adapted for use for other purposes, the objectof the invention being to provide an improved pump of this character which is cheap and simple, is very strong and durable, which may be readily installed, which may be readily disassembled to permit repairs :and which requires but little power in its operation.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 p is a vertical central sectional view of a pump constructed in accordance w1th my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same on a. plane at right angles to that of Fig. 1.
a horizontal sectional view on a plane indicated by the line oo of Fig. 5.
Referring first to the form of my invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, the pump casing 1 which may be made of any suitable form, is made of sections 2 which are provided at their meeting ends with outstanding flanges 3 and are detachably secured together by bolts 4 which pass through openings in said flanges, gaskets or other suitable packing devices being placed in the joints between the meeting ends of the sections. The upper section also has outturned flanges 5 at its upper end which bear on and are secured to suitable supporting timbers 6. A lower head 7 is bolted as at 8 to the lower end of the lower casing section and is provided with a pair of downwardly extending spaced cylinders 9. The pump head 10 is secured directly on the upper end of the casing and is formed with a discharge spout 11. A shaft 12 is mounted-fin":bearings* l3=-in :the enids of th'e pump headand visyprovided with a pair of oppositely -*extend1ng-';:cranks 14. 1 A pair of cylindrical pluiigers are arranged to0p1*"60 erate in the cylinder -9;- These-plungersare provided with:spiders -or crosspieces' 16in their upper ends: A plunger" 'rod' -l8 passes throughathe centers of and-is secured to'the" said spiders or"cross-'--pieces" ofeachplunger The-plunger -rods extend up? ;through the 70 casing-2 and operatein -guides 21 Conn'ec'ting rods 22 for their lower ends are pivotally connected:to thecupper ends of plunger rods' as at 23 and their upper ends engaged with wrists of the cranks 14 so that when the shaft 12 is revolved by its pulley 24 the plunger rods and their plungers are caused to vertically reciprocate and to move simultaneously in reverse directions. Each plunger rod is provided with a suitable number of displacing or float members 25. Each float member comprises a pair of hollow members 26, each of which contains an air chamber 27 and these members 26 are secured on opposite sides of the plunger rods by means of bolts 28. A suitable number of these displacing or float members are employed to equal half or substantially half the cubic capacity of the casing 2. The float or displacing members on the plunger rods assist on the up strokes of the plunger rods so as to very materially reduce power required to operate the pump. Any suitable number of casing members or sections 2 will be employed, according to the depth of the well or other source of water in which the pump is arranged for operation. The casing members being detachable, and the lower head which is provided with pump cylinders being also detachable from the casing, the parts of the pump may be very readily disassembled in order to facilitate the making of repairs and hence all parts of the pump are rendered readily accessible. In the form of my invention shown in Figs. 5 to 7 each cylinder 9 is bolted as at 29 to the lower end of a tube 30, the upper I ends of said tubes being bolted as at 31 to the lower end of the casing head 32 which is provided at one side with a discharge pipe 2 3 The tubes 30 are provided on their opposing sides with flanged coupling mem and a -p air ofupwardlyr opening valves'-"-19 are arrangedon each -lowerspider or 'cross I bers bolted as at that the said tubes are detachablysecurdtogether.
Eachtube is also provided on one'side with a hand hold 35 and a cover plate 36 therefor to enable access to be readily had to the plungers 37 which operate in the cylinders 9 The plunger'rods 1 8 are provided with in'bearings 39 in the side Walls of "said; cas
ing head. One end of the rock shaft. -pro-.
" in'jgthe latter atthe sidesintermediate the float members and operating means for the je'cts beyond one side of the casingh-e'ad and is provided with a lever 40 to-enable the pump to be operated manually if desired.
' -A rocking yoke 41 is secured on therock shaft and its ends are connected by means of pitmen42 to the upper ends of the plunger rods. The pump rod 130f a indmill may be also'connected to the rocking yoke as at 4:4 and this pump rod extends through and is free to operate in a pipe 45 Which isconnected to leads from the top of the casing head andenables the Water to be -lifted to the desired height.
casing a pump cylinder at the lower end of the casing, a head at the upper end of the casing, a plunger arranged to operate in the cylinder, a plunger rod connected to the plunger and extending up through the casing, float m'embers' arranged on two opposite s des of ,the plunger rod, guldes 1n the casiiigr for the plunger rod and engagplunger rod, arranged in the head.
In test mony whereof I affix my signature H1 presence of tWo Witnesses.
