To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FLOYD FREEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Conveyors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in conveyers and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with glass Ware, such as bottles or the like; and an object of the invention is to provide a conveyer of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the bottles or the like after being blown are mechanically carried and deposited in a leer or tempering furnace or other point of discharge.
It is also an object of my invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character wherein the articles carried thereby are ejected or discharged therefrom in an automatic manner whereby the device may be operated at a comparatively great speed.
It is also an object of my invention to provide a novel and improved conveyer of this general character which may be readily transported from one locality to another in order that it may be employed in connection with difierent furnaces or points of discharge.
The invention consists in the details of' construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved conveyer whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, allas will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claims.
In order that my'invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein .Figure 1 is a view in top plan of a conveyer constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention: Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the device as disclosed in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a sectional View taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Fig.
3; Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view, taken substantially onthe line 5-5 of Fig. 2; Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on the line 6-6 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 7 is an edge elevational view, detached, of a blade comprised in my device as herein disclosed.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a base member having operatively engaged therewith the supporting wheels 2 whereby the device may be transported from one locality to another with convenience and facility. Supported by the base member 1 is the pedestal or standard 3 capable of vertical adjustment, in a manner which is thought to be self-evident, under the influence of the hand wheel 4. Suitably secured to the upper extremity of the pedestal or standard 3 is the table 5, herein disclosed as substantially square in top plan and having secured thereto at a predetermined distance thereabove through the medium of the supports 6, the stationary conveyer floor 7 herein disclosed as substantially U-shaped in cross section, and of a predetermined length. The forward extremity of I the conveyer floor 7 overlies the marginal portion of the circular table or platform 8 loosely mounted on the vertical shaft 9 and adapted to rotate therearound, in a manner to be hereinafter more particularly referred to.
Operatively supported by the table or platform 8 at a predetermined distance thereabove by the supporting bracket 9 is the swing conveyer floor 10, the major portion of which being substantially U-shape in cross section and occupying the same horizontal plane as the conveyer floor 7 hereinbefore referred to. The conveyer floor 10 is of predetermined length and is adapted to project within a leer or tempering furnace and is provided with a depending block or member 11 adapted to engage the anti-friction members 12, herein disclosed as conventional spherical bodies, carried by the arcuate track 14: supported in operative po sition by the brace members 15 projecting forwardly from the table 5.
For properly moving the articles. such as blown bottles, along the conveyer floor 7, a sprocket wheel 16 is fixed to the upper extremity of the vertical shaft 17 mounted in the bearing 18 secured to one of the vertical walls of the floor 7 adjacent the outer extremity thereof and around the sprocket 16 is disposed an endless chain 19 which is also disposed around a second sprocket 20 fixed to the vertical shaft 21 projecting upwardly from the table or platform 5, the lower extremity of said shaft 21 being mounted in the bearing 22 While the upper extremity thereof is mounted in the bearing arm 23 projecting forwardly from the adjacent extremity of the conveyer floor 7. Interposed between the. stretches of the chain 19 and operatively engaged therewith at a point intermediate the sprockets 16 and 20vis a third sprocket 24 fixed to the verti cally disposed shaft 25 rotatably supported by the bearing 26 carried bya verticalwall of the conveyer floor 7'and having its lower extremity operatively engaged, as at-27, with the horizontally disposed shaft 28 supported by the bearings 29 mounted upon the table or latform 5. v I
s herein disclosed, the shaft 28 has affixed thereto a sprocket 30 around which is disposed a chain 31 which is also directed around a, sprocket 32 fixed to the horizontally disposed shaft 33 mounted in the bearings 34 and positioned at the 'marginalportion of the platform opposite to that occupied by the shaft 28. The shaft 33 is also provided with a sprocket a drive chain 36 operatively engaged with the motor M supported by the table 5 and which may be of any. type desired. -The shaft 33 has also aflixed thereto a beveled pinion 37 in mesh with a similar pinion 38 I fixed to-the horizontally disposed shaft 39 referred to,
shaft 42 arranged at right angles to the shaft 33 and provided with a second beveled pinion 40 interposed between and in mesh with" the spaced beveled gears 41 loosely mounted on the horizontal shaft 42 disposed in parallelism with the shafts 28v and 33, hereinbefore and projecting beyond one extremity of the table 5, said projected extremity being provided, as herein disclosed,
with a hand wheel 43 whereby said shaft may be manually rotated when the requi'rements of practice may necessitate. The shaft 42 is also operatively supported by the bearings 44 form 5.
Keyed upon the shaft 42 but capable-of movement longitudinally thereof and positioned between the gears 41' is aclutch member 45 adapted to coact with the opposed clutch faces 46 of the gears 41 whereby said may be'reversely rotated and, as herein set forth, the clutch member 45 has coacting therewith in a conventional way the yoke 47 mounted for rocking movement about a vertical axis 48 and provided with a lateral extension 49 overlying the marginal portion of the table or platform 8 and positioned between the upstanding projections 50 of said table or platform 8 whereby it gaged with certain of the 35 around which is disposed secured to the tableor plat-,

' whereby it will be perceived that my improved conveyer may be operated at a comparatively great speed and whereby the possibility ofcongestion or other obstruction to the operation of the device is reduced to a minimum. As herein embodied, axial rotation is imparted to the thought tobe, obvious thata conveyer con-v structed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the. convenience and facility with which it may be assembled,
and it will also be-obvious that my inlen rafi tion is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying outmy invention in practice.
I claim:
1. A device of the character described comprising a vertically adjustable table, a stationary bed carried thereby, a swinging conveyer bed carried bythe table and coacting with the stationary bed, and a supporting frame carried by the table upon which the swinging conveyer bed rests intermediate its length.
2. A device of, the character described comprising a platform, a conveyer bed supported thereby and capable of swinging movement, an ejector member carried by the conveyer bed and extending to/the discharge end of the bed, means carried by the bed for imparting reciprocatory movement to the ejector member, and means carried by theplatform for operating said last named means.
3. A device of the character described comprising a platform capable of vertical adjustment, a conveyer bed supported thereby and capable of swinging movement, an ejector member carried by the conveyer bed and extending to the discharge end of the bed, means carried by the bed for imparting reciprocatory movement to 4. A device of the character described comprising a platform, a stationary bed carried rthereby, a swinging conveyer bed carried by the platform and coacting with the stationary bed, a supporting frame carried by the platform upon which the swinging bed rests intermediate its length, and anti-friction members carried by the upper surface of the supporting frame and directly engageable with the swinging conveyer bed.
