SLEEPING-GARMENT.
Application filed November 27, 1914..v Serial-No. 874,293.
To all whom it may concern: L Y
, Be it known that L F o'RnNoE J. Evans, a citizen of the United States, residing at Valhalla, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sleeping-Garments,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sleeping garments and it consists in the hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a' garment especially adapted foruse upon infants while sleeping, 'thegarinent being providedwith means for preventing its dis placement with relation to the bed or the wearer.
With'the' above object in View the garment comprises a jacket portion provided at its upper portion with an opening and having :a sheet attached to the forward part of the same. The sheet isprovided with arm openings which registerwith the opening in the said jacket portion. Elastic sections or tapes are secured to the edge of the sheet at the opposite sides of the arm open ing and tapes are connected with the corner portions of the sheet whereby the sheet may be secured to'the frame of a crib or bed. The sheet isfurther provided with tapes located at a point approximately midway be tween its side edges and at its upper edge and the said tapes may be used for-the purpose of securing a blanket with relation to v the sheet.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure, 1 is a perspective view of the garment. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the blanket disconnected from the sheet. 1 v
The garment comprises a jacket 1 which is open at the back and which isprovided with suitable securing devices indicated at 2. The jacket 1 is provided at its front and at its upper edge with an opening 3 through which the arms of a wearer may pass. Asheet 4 is connected with the jacket 1 at the upper portion thereof and at the opposite sides of the opening 3 therein. The said sheet is also secured by stitching 5 with, the intermediate forward portion of the said jacket. Elastic cords or tapes 6 are secured in the upper edge of the sheet 4: and at the oppo site sides of arm'openings 7 provided in the said sheet. Tapes 8' are connected with the corner portions of the sheet beyond the outer ends of the cords 6 and may be used for securing the sheet to the frame of a bed novel features tion of the sheet is held snugly across the body of the wearer. Tapes 9 are securedto Specification of Letters Patent. Patenteddtan. ll f fio v or crib. When this is done the elastics 6 are stretched, consequently the'edge porthe upper intermediateportion of the'sheet and may be used -for securing a blanket 10 with relation to the sheet the saidvblanket being provided with openings 11' through which the. tapes 9 may bepassed and tied together as indicated in Fig. 1- of the draw- When the garment is applied the arms of the infant are passed through the opening 3 and the jacket 1 is buttoned up or secured at the back of the infant. The arms of the infant are also passed through the openings 'Z in the sheet 4 and when the infant is reclining in a .bed or crib the tapes 8 are secured to the frame of the said bed or crib. By reason of the fact that the cords 6 are elastic they may elongate and contract. Consequently while the jacket is in position upon the infant and the arms of the infant-are passed through the openings 7 in the sheet the infant may turn in the bed or crib. At thesame time the tapes 9 will hold the blanketlO overthe arms of the infant and consequentlythe arms cannot become exposed.
,. 35' From the above description takenin conjunction with the accompanying drawing it will be observed that a garment of simple structure is provided and which when appliedwill effectually protect an infant or wearer whensleeping or in an inclined p'osture.
The blanket 101s" provided at as edge. with an'elastic section indicated at 12 and the sheet 4 is provided with openings 13.
The blanket is provided with openings 14 and the tapes 8 may be passed through the openings 13 and 14 and tied thereb'ysecurving the corner portions of the said sheet and blanket together. Theend portlons'ofthe,
tapes 8 may then be tied or secured at the sides of the crib or bed as hereinbefore described When the blanket is applied the elastic 12 is stretched, and therefore, the edge portion of the blanket. is held snugly across the body of the wearer.
Having described the invention what 1s claimed is 1. A garment comprising a jacket pro vided at its upper forward portlon with an opening, a sheet secured to the acket and provided at its upper forward portion with arm openings which register with the opening in the jacket, elastic cords secured to the sheet beyond the openings therein and securing tapes connected with the sheet beyond the ends of the said elastic cords.
2. A garment comprising a jacket provided at its upper forward portion with an opening, a sheet secured to the jacket and having at its upper portion arm openings which register with the opening in the jacket, elastic cords secured to the sheet beyond the openings therein, tapes attached FLORENCE J. BLENIS.
