Description

Variations may be resorted to within the scope of the invention, and portions of the improvements may be used without others.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim.
l. In an indicating mechanism for typewriting machines, in combination with a rotary platen,'a dial graduated to accord with line spaces on the platen, a pointer adapted to move over said dial, gearing on the shaft of said platen adapted to cause movement ot' said pointer in time with linespacing movement of the platen, a second pointer, adjustable about the dial, into positions to indicate limit of permissible movement of' the first pointer over the dial and means whereby said second pointer is held fixed but yielding in said positions.
2. In an indicating mechanism for typewriting machines, in combination with al rotary platen, a dial graduated to accord with linc spaces of the-platen, a pointer adapted to be moved over said dial, gearing on the shaft of said platen adapted' to cause movement of said pointer in time with linespacing movement of the platen, and a second pointer yieldingly adjustable over the dial into fixed but yielding positions, -and means on said dialcooperating with said second pointer 1n maintaining its fixed but yielding position.
3. In an indicating mechanism for typewriting machines, the combination of a dial plate having a series of notches or depressions, a pointer adjustable over the dial plate and yieldingly held by said depressions in adjusted position, and a second pointer geared with the platen axle to travel over said dial plate. l f
4. In an indicating mechanism for typewriting machines, the combination of a dial plate provided with an annular series of notches, a shaft journaled in said plate, gearing connecting said shaft with the platen shaft, a pointer fixed to said shaft to rotate over the plate, and a second pointer loosely mounted on said shaft to yieldingly engage said notches t'o thereby hold it in any position of adjustment.
5. In combination with a platen, a pageend indicating device comprising a dial, a
vpointer geared tothe platen shaft to move over the dial as the platen is rotated, to progressively denote the number of lines written, and an auxiliary pointer capable of being set at different positions over said dial and held in set position by means of its point entering a depression of the dial, to indicate the full number of lines to be written, and the completionr thereof.
6. The combination with a platen and a platen frame, of a page-end indicating device comprising a plate on said frame having a dial formed thereon, a pointer adapted to travel over said dial, and a driving connection between the platen and the pointer, said pointer and-,driving connection being supported in operative relation. by said plate, means on said plate whereby the plate may bc connected to a platen frame.
7. A page-end indicating device composed of two units in order to be more readily applicable to a typewriter platen frame having a revoluble platen, one of said units comprising a pointer, driving means whereby said pointer may be operatively connected with the-platen, to move therewith, a second pointer to coperate with said first-named pointer, and a plate forming a mount for said driving means and pointers, and the second unit comprising a ,pinion to be se` cured to the platen axle.
8. The combination with a platen, of a page-end indicating device comprising a dial, a pointer geared to the platen whereby it is made to travel over said dial with the rotation ot' said platen, to vprogressively denote the number of lines written, a pointer set frictionally in a,fixed position over said dial to continually indicate the iull number of lines to be Written, a plate for carrying said dial, pointers and gearing, and means for attaching said plate to the frame of a platen.
9. The combination with a typewriter carriage having a platen, of a plate, a page-end indicating device comprisinga dial formed on said plate, an adjustable indicator therefor, a pointer traveling over the dial toward said indicator, and driving means between the platen and pointer, whereby said pointer is operated by the rotation of said platen, said plate forming a cover and suppgrt for the said driving means.
'10. The combination with a typewriter carriage having a platen, of a page-end indicating device constructed to be easily attachable to the platen and comprising a plate carrying a dial, a pointer, driving means 'connecting the platen with thc pointer, whereby said pointer is operated by the rotation of the platen, and a second pointer capable of being setfrictionally in y a fixed position by hand to continually indicate vthe -full number of lines to. be written.
