EJECTOB FOR FIREARMS.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 25, 1916.
Application led November '7, 1913. Serial No. 799,649.
Aimportance in the case of automatic tirearnis and more especially in the case of ries and machine-guns, in which the ejection takes place with great force and the empty cartridge is thrown for a considerable distance, whereby persons standing nearby may be seriously endangered.
According to my invention, I make the ejecting force controllable by arranging the ejector-hook in such a manner that it can give way against the action of a spring, as it is struck by an empty cartridge, so that by the use of a correspondingly strong spring or by the adjustment of the Strength of the said spring, it is possible to so regulate `or control the force of the blow of the bottom of the cartridge against the ejector-hook that the empty cartridge is only ejected with the necessary force, and the ejection, in instances where the recoil happens to be Stronger than usual, is not much more forcible, as the spring acting on the ejector absorbs the surplus force.
A form of construction of my new ejector is shown by way of example on the accompanying drawing.
The hook shaped ejector b is inserted 1n the breech casing d at a in such a manner that the hook portion of the ejector b can give way against the action of the spring c as the hook portion is struck by the empty cartridge. i
.If the spring c is weak, the ejector will give way to such a considerable extent that no ejectlon occurs. This is avoided if the tension of the spring c is increased or the spring replaced by a stronger one, in which case the ejector approaches the action of a rigld ejector or of one which is rigid at the moment of ejection, whereby, as is well known, the most forceful ejection is produced. One can vary the force of the ejection to any desired degree by correspondingly choosing the spring c or by adjusting its strength.
The scope of my invention is of course not limited to the illustrated construction, as the hook shape of the ejector is only one of the many forms, it being only essential that the ejector can ive way against the action of an exchangezigble or adjustable spring when struck by the empty cartridge.
I claim as my invention:
In combination with the breech-casing of {ire-arms an ejecting lever pivotally inserted in the breech-casing with its forward end and having at its rear end a hook portion adapted to project into said breech casing 'into the path of the empty cartridge, and
a spring acting on. said ejecting lever so as to normally force its hook portlon 1nto the breech casing.
In testimony whereof I afilx my slgnature.
RUDOLF FROMMER.
