INDICATING APPARATUS.
T o all 'whom '15 may concern Be it known that I, NnLlUs J. NEssA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sioux Falls, in the county of Minnehaha and State 'of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements inlndieating Apparatus, of which the following is a specication. Y
This invention relates tocertain novel and useful improvements in fluid operated circuit closers.
In'carrying out the present invention'it is my purpose to provide a circuit closer which may be used in conjunction with a liquid containing tank or receptacle to indicatethe level of the liquid therein, and

wherein the component parts will be so ar ranged and correlated as to reduce the possibility of derangement to a minimum.
With the above and other objects Vin view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts herelinafter set forth in and falling within the .scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View through the circuit closer constructed in accordance with my present invention. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on the 'line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional View on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, A designates a fluid controlled device comprising a circular Vdisk l formed centrally with an aperture in4 which is rotatably l mounted a pin 2 formed with an annular Vflange 3 engaging the upper surface of the disk 1 and an annular flange 4 engaging the lower surface of the disk and coacting with the flange- 3 to hold the pin against longitudinal-movement. Fastned to the lower end of the pin '2y in some suitable manner and rojecting downwardly therefrom and coaxial therewith is a shaft 5 capable of rotation and formed with a longitudinally extending spiral groove 6 extending around one-half the4 circumference of the shaft and of a lengthv equal to that of the shaft. Secured to the under surface of the disk and depending therefrom and spaced apart equal' along the same is a float 8 constructed of suitable material and having the periphery thereof equipped with eyes 9 through which Patented Jan. 18, 1916.

F astened to the upper surface of the float 8 is a tooth 10 projecting toward the axis of the float and engaged in the groove 6 in the shaftv 5 so that as the float moves vertically along'the sha-ft the latter will be revolved. In the vertical sliding movement of the float the rods 7 hold the same against rotation so that the shaft will revolve under the' action of the tooth. The disk 1 is preferably composed of insulating material and embedded in the upper surface thereof concentrically of the axis of the disk is a collector ring 11. Arranged concentrically of the ring 11 is a semicircular row of segments 13 spaced apart equal distances. Fixed to the upper extremity of the pin 2 ,and adapted to rotate therewith under the action of the shaft 5 is a bridging finger 14 spanning the collector ring 11 and the row of contacts 13.
' In practice, the fluid controlled device A is disposed vertically within a tank or receptacle and the tank filled to the desired point. As the liquid flows into the tank theifloat 8 of the device 8 rises and in the upward movement of the float the shaft 5 rotates thereby revolving the pin 2 and finger 14 so that the latter may move over the collector ring 11 and row ofcontaets 13 to a point indicative of the quantity of liquid within the tank or-receptacle. As the level of the liquid within the tank falls the float 8 moves downwardly and rotates the shaft 5 to carry the'finger 14 over the collector ring and row of contacts v13 in the reverse direction thereby indicating the discharge qf liquid from the tank and the amount' of liquid therein. The row of contacts 13 and the collector ring 11 may form the terminals of an electric circuit including an indicating device rotatable in the movement of the finger 14 to indicate the quantity of liquid within the tank.

A'circuit closer comprising a disk of insulating material formed cen`trally with an opening, a pin rotatably mounted Within said opening and having the upper and lower-ends thereof flanged to hold the pin against longitudinal movement within gialle opening, a collector ring on one face of said disk concentrically' of the opening therein, an annular ro1 of contacts on said face o Y the disk eoncentrically of said ring, a linger carried by said in and rotatable therewith and bridging said contacts and ring, a shaft secured to said pin and depending therefrom end having a longitudinally extending spiral groove formed therein, a lient slidnhly mounted upon seid shaft and capable of vertical movement along the shaft, sind n tooth on said float engaging in said groove to rotate said shaft in the movement of the float.
