To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES D. Md ARTHUR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have in vented certain new and useful improvements in Collapsible Forms, of which the following is a specification. f
The invention relates to collapsible metal forms, and particularly to large size forms for theformation of subways and similar passages in which the walls are of concrete or other similar material. The invention has for its primary objects; the provision of a form of large size which may be easily collapsed and moved from place to place; the provision of an improved arrangement whereby the sides of the form may be movedl and positioned with respect -to' the kwheels upon which they are mounted; and the provision of an improved arrangement of sup# porting and collapsing means. One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in accompanying drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a transverse section through a pair of forms in position in a pair of parallel subways of slightly different shape, the form in the right hand subway being in collapsed position, and the one in the left hand subway being in expanded position, Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are enlarged detail views showing the method of mounting the wheels employed, Figgi being a section on the line IV-IV of Fig. 3,-and F ig. y5 is a longitudinal section through the form. The invention is illustrated as applied to a subway form of large size and peculiar shape, but it `willbe understood that the more important features of invention are 'regarded as applicable to a large variety of different shaped forms and to forms of small size as well as to those of large size. In order that the channels 2, 2 may be pulled inwardly to the positionindicated at the right of Fig. 1, when thetop members of the form swing downwardly, the straps 11 are provided, which straps are pivoted at their outer ends to the channels 2, 2 and at their inner ends to the plates 10, 10. As the top members swing down to the position indicated at the right of Fig. l, the plates 1l, 11 swing inwardly, `pulling the straps 10, 10 inwardly, and with them the channels 2, 2, such inward movement of the channels 2, 2 with respect to the beams being permitted by reason of the pin and slot connection 8, 7.
ln order to move the top portions of the form up and down, the pivoted struts 13 and la are provided,` the mechanism for operating such struts being substantially the same on each side of the form. In combination in a mold of inverse U-shape; side members movable inwardly and outwardly; a top member pivoted to the upper portion of each of the side members so as to swing inwardly and downwardly; a longitudinally extending key piece for holding the inner opposing edges of the top members when in upper position; a transverse member carried by the side members; and removable means carried by the transverse member for supporting the key piece.

In combination in a mold of inverse U-shape; side members movable inwardly and outwardly; a top member having a side portion and an upper portion pivoted to the uppery portions of each of the side members on the inside of such side member soas to swing inwardly and downwardly; a'transyverse beam between and supported by the side members; and means on the beam for supporting the top members when in upper operative position.
