Description

PATENT CFFIGE.
THOMAS JEFFERSON TRAPP, OF WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,777, dated July 4, 1871.
.To all whom it may concern:
Beitknown that I, THOMAS JEFFERSON TRAPP, of Williamsport, in the county of Lycoming` and State of Pennsylvania, he ve invented anew and Improved Bag-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making apart of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a sectional eleva-tion.
This invention relates to an improvement in bag-holders of the class in which jointed and vertically-adjustable arms are employed; and consists in a peculiar construction and arrangement of such jointed arms, and in a movable platform on which. the bags rest while filling, which platform can be raised and lowered for the purpose of shaking down and consolidating the contents of the bags.
In the drawing, a is the base, resting on rollers b, which render the apparatus portable. e is a vertical standard, provided with a slot, d, through which passes a bolt, 7c, from the block e, the same having a screw-nut, f, which adapts it to be clamped or secured at the desired point. g h indicate a bag-holder, which is secured to the block e, and jointed, as shown. Through one side of the base-frame a passes a treadle, t, the
inner end of which is fastened to the center of a platform, j, which rests upon the upper side of the frame a..
By stepping on the treadle the operator raises the platform and the bag which rests on it, and then by letting the platform fall suddenly the contents of the bag are shaken down as much as may be necessary.
The arms h when folded together support the bag, when turned down over the plate g and the said arms, in such a manner that the greater the pressure there is on the bag from the contents thereof the more tightly is the bag held by the holder.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the standard c, slot d, block e, bolt k, nut f, and bag-holder g h, constructed and arranged as specified.
2. The combination of the base a, platform j, and treadle z', constructed and arranged as set forth.
