Be it known that 1, PETER Zen of the United States, residing at Larchmont Manor, county of Nestche'ster, andv State ofv New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Holders for.

Shoe-Polish and other Boxes, of which the rial or any materialsimilarly used,inonehand, without soilmg the hands, while using the applying brush or cloth to take up the polish or other contents of the box and apply'it to the boots or other object.

To that end, my invention in its present embodiment comprises mainly a plate or bed for the box having a handle and a boxbiting jaw on one side, a pivot on one side of the bed, and a pair of arms mounted to swing toward and from each other and adjustable lengthwise on said pivot and carrying box-biting jaws and pinch pieces on their ends opposite the pivot, all as willbe hereinafter fully described. The spirit of the invention and its various features will then be pointed out particularly in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which the same parts are designated by like numerals in all the figures.

Figure l is a plan view showing an ordinary shoe polish b'ox clamped in a holder of the form in which my invention is at present embodied. Fig. 2 is a plan view of said holder unclamped, part of the handle being broken away. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of said holder unclamped, part of the handle being broken away. Fig. 4 is a front view of said holder and a box clamped therein and partially opened thereby. Fig. 5 is a side view of said holder and a box clamped therein and partially opened thereby.

In the embodiment of my invention thus illustrated, a bed on which the shoe polish or other box 8 is to rest, is made bypreference of a circular plate 6 of metal and is provided, in this instance, with an integral fixed arm 7, to form a simple and convenient handle for holding the holder and box in one hand: The bed plate 6 is provided preferably on its handle side and by nonnnn" non sacs-geoma- Ann crass BOXES. The stud 14 ishere shown passing through both inner pivot holes21 and 22, in which case the clamping arms are shortened, but by swinging the clamping arms apart into alinement, the clamping arms can be pulled 8O lengthwise outward, the flattened stud riding flatwise in both slots 19 and 20, until the stud enters both outer stud holes 21 and 22, in which adjustment the clamping arms will be lengthened and can then be swung together to clamp a box of, larger diameter. The clamping arms 17 and 18 are prefer-- ably guided and held in their swinging clamping motion by a segmental keeper 23 fixed to the outer edge of the bed plate 6, by a lug 24, and extending laterally therefrom on both sides closely beneath the arms 17 and 18. On the outer ends of the clamping arms 17 and 18 are formed perpendicularly thereto, clamping jaws 25 and 26 respectively, which as the jaws are swung together on the eccentric stud 14, clamp the box 8 tightly against the fixed inner jaw 9, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, and on the upper ends of the jaws 25 and 26 "are formed inwardly and radially extending teeth or openers 27 and 28 respectively, which are preferably in- .clined transversely, as shown in Fig. 4, so

bending radially outward lateral extensions of the jaws and 26, pinch pieces 29 and 30 respectively, by pressing which together or apart by the thumb and forefinger, the clamping jaws are easily clamped on or unclamped from the box 8. The box 8 being thus opened and firmly clamped on the bed plate 6, it can be held in one hand, without soiling it, by the handle 7, and the other hand used to wield the brush or cloth and apply the polishing or other material from the box to the boot or other object to be treated.

The embodiment of my invention thus described and illustrated shows one way in which the invention is carried into practice, but to determine the spirit and scope of the invention reference is to, be had to the following claims:

I claim as my invention:

1. A holder for boxes comprising a circular box bed, a handle and a box-clamping jaw fixed to one side of the box bed, a pair of clamping arms pivoted eccentrically on the handle side of the box bed, and box clamping jaws and pinch pieces carried by the clamping arms and projecting radially outward from the jaws on the side of the box bed opposite the handle.

2. An opener and holder for boxes comprising a box bed, a box-clamping jaw on one side of the box bed, a pair of clamping arms pivoted on said side of the box bed, and box clamping jaws on said arms having inclined teeth or openers to, when swung into. clamping position, enter between the box and cover and pry the cover off the box.
