GEORGE M. GREENE, or scorn soMnRvxLLn new JERSEY.
CONTAINER Fons AvIne-smeKs. I 1
To all tchom it may concern Be at known that I, GEORGE of South Somerville, :county of Somerset,
State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers for Shaving-Sticks, of which the following is a specification. I My invention relates to containers or receptacles for shaving sticks and part1cu-.
larly to containers, the removable covers of whichserve as a hand p1ece or supportfor the stick when removed from the container.
The object of my invention isto provide such a container,: the cover of which is adapted to at all times securely hold one end of .the stick and which as the "stick I "which holds the stick, removed from the body portion; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of my container, showing the cover in place, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 8-3 of Fig.2.
Referring to Fig. 1, 10 represents the body portion of the container, which may be cylindrical in form and which may be made of sheet metal or any other desired material. The particular form of the container and the material of which it is made, however, constitute no part of myinvention, The cover 12 is provided with a threaded portion 13 forming both a male and a female thread. The malethread cooperates with the female thread 1 1. at the end of the bodyportion,- thus providing means for removably secur ing the cover to the body portion.
The clamping device 15 is in some suit able manner removably secured to the cover 12, the particular means herein shown for effecting this connection being the male thread 16 upon the clamping member, which cooperates with the female thread on the.
cover 12. This clamping device comprises a split ring as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Upon the exterior surface of this split ring. are.
formed a plurality of cam shaped surfaces 17 with which the encircling ring 18 is.
adapted to cooperate. Thus it is seen that when the ring 18 is moved longitudinally of the clamping member, into the position shown in Fig. 1, it will, through its c0-.
Specification of Letters Patent.
v M.GREENE, a citizen of the United States, and areslde'nt operation with the cam surfaces 17, contract the split ring or clamping ineinber"and" thereby securely clamp and etaintlie slrav ing stickA. 1 V i.

sible into the clamping device, in order that it may be supported as securely "as possible.;' \Vhen,-however, the stick is used upso that its outer end-extends but slightly beyond the clamping member (that"is,"to lthe left'as shown in Fig. 1) it is necessary'toproject the stick farther from the clamping device, This ,is accomplished by iiiovingftlie 'encir'-' cling ring longitudinally" to the right, thus allowingthe clamping member-[toexpand" and permitting free movement of the stick therein. If the stick liasbe'en reduced in' length so much that it'is' diflicu'lt' to'pull'it out from the clamping membeigth'e cover 12 may be unscrewed from the clamping 11101-11 ber, thus exposing the right ha'nd. endiofthe stick, so that the stick may be easily pushed out of the clamping member the desired amount; The encircling ring 18 is then again moved to the left into cooperation wit-h the cam surfaces 17, thus contracting the clamping device and securelyholding the stick in its new position.-. From the above. the advantages of the particular construction of the various parts of my improved container should be apparentf The desiderata of a container'of the type described are that the shaving stick shall at all times be securely retained by the cover portion and that as the stick I" is reduced in size, it may be easily advanced out of the cover portion and again securely clamped in position. My improved containeraccomplishesthese objects in a simple and efiicient manne'r.
\Vlnle I have described a particular embodiment of my invention, 1 do not. wish to be. limited thereto, since many: changes may be made therein, without departing fromthe spirit of my invention.
\Vhat I claim-is:
1.- A container fora shaving stick comprising a body portion closed at one end and open at'theother. a cover therefor, and releasabl'e means carried by said cover for-securing a shaving stick to said cover in a variety of adjusted positions by bearing upon and clamping differentparts of the end of said shavingstick according .to the relative lengthwise adjustment of said shaving stick and cover, said cover acting as a closure for the open end of said body portion and said body portion and cover having nieans for securing them removably together and telescoping when said container' 1S closed.
damping sleeve, and thus secure the shaving stick adjustably Within the open end. of the cover, said cover acting as a. closure for the open end of said body portion and said body portion and COYBI telescoping and being removably secured together when said container is closed.
A container fora shavingstick, com-- prising a body portion threadedat one end, a cover comprising a flange threaded ex.- ternally to engage said body portion and threaded internally to engage and support a clamping device, a clamping device supspecification in the presence ported in said cover, com, prising at one end a threaded portion. adapted to engage and belsupported by the coi'er and at the other prising a body portionthreaded at one end,
a cover comprising a flange-threaded externally ,to"engage-said body portion and threaded internallyto engage a-nd'support a clamping device, a' clamping device supported in said cover, comprising at one end a threaded portion. adapted to engage and be supportedb'y the-cover and at theother end asplit ring adapted to receive" and support ashaving stick;v aplurality of. cam surfaces on said split'rin'g; and a" longitudinally movable ringencirclin'g said-split ring and adapted to engage said'cam surface for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this of two subscribing 'Witnesses. a v
