Description
C. F. PENN.
COLLAPSIBLE CAMP STOVE.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. I0, I914.
ormnnns r. PENN, or SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
COLLAPSIBLE CAMP-STOVE.
Application filed September 10, 1914.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES F. PENN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of l/Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Camp-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in collapsible camp stoves, and the primary object is to provide a generally improved collapsible or portable camp stove of exceedingly simple, cheap, and eflicient construction, which may be readily folded to exceedingly small and convenient form for transportation or storage.
A further object is the provision of an improved foldable or collapsible device of this class particularly adapted to the requirements of camp life by. reason of the provision of a single leg or support adapted to be driven into the ground in suitable proximity to the fuel and fire upon the latter, said leg or support carrying a plurality of longitudinally foldable article supporting arms adapted when in use to extend outwardly and radially from the leg or support in a horizontal position immediately over the fire and to support the cooking utensils, or the articles to be prepared, such as broiled meat, toast, and the like.
lVith the above mentioned and other ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in one of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a side elevation of the improved camp stove collapsed for storage or transportation, or before being driven into the ground preparatory to being opened out or set up. Fig. 2, a central longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3, a top plan view of the same set up for use or to receive cooking utensils thereon.
Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings.
The improved collapsible or portable camp stove comprises a supporting guide member 1, which is adapted to carry and support the other parts in their proper relative position, and as a means for adapting the supporting or guide member 1, to be Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 25, 1915.
Serial No. 860,979.
driven into the ground said guide may be provided with a separately formed and attached pointed head 1", and a casing or shell 2, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings.
The supporting guide 1, is provided at its top with an arm supporting spreader head i article supporting arms as hereinafter described. As a means of limiting or stopping the arms 4, in their inward or collapsed movements an adjustable stop 6, is provided, said stop, in the present instance, comprising an adjusting nut 6, threaded on the supporting guide or stem 1, as shown.
When it is desired to open up or set up the improved collapsible stove, the supporting member 1, may be first driven into the ground, and as a means for facilitating the opening or withdrawing of the article supporting arms 4, one of the arms 4, is provided with a bent-over portion or lug 4 which may be readily engaged by the fingers and by drawing upwardly on said arms all of the article supporting arms are withdrawn and permitted to assume a radially extending horizonal position as shown most clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The arms 4, are then readily adapted to support the cooking utensil, or a plurality of such utensils, immediately over the fire, said arms being also admirably adapted for broiling meat, toasting bread, or the like. It is also apparent that the proximity of the horizontally extending arms to the fire below may be readily regulated by the length or depth into which the pointed end of the supporting member 1, is driven into the ground.
It will be observed upon reference to the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, that the arm supporting spreader head 3, is supported in part upon the upper end of the casing or shell 2, which latter is adapted to inclose or cover the arm supporting arms or bars 4, when the latter are in their folded or collapsed position.
When the article supporting arms 4, are in their open position as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the inner ends thereof are the ring or body portion of the head inside of the inner peripheries of the inner portions of the arm guide openings 3*, as illustrated at 3*. In cooperation with the support of the inner portions or ends of the article supporting arms 4, the latter are further supported by resting on the lower edges of the outer arm guide openings or recesses 3, as illustrated at 3.
From the foregoing description, taken'in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
Having thus described some of the embodiments of my invention, what claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,'
1. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a supporting guide stem terminating at one end in a pointed head and at the other in a stationary supporting spreader member, a casing extending between and secured to said head and spreader member and surrounding and spaced from said stem, said casing and spreader member being provided with arm receiving guide openings, article supporting arms slidably mounted in said guide openings of said casing and spreader member and adapted to be normally folded within said casing, and a bearing ring connecting the inner ends of said arms and surrounding said guide stem and adapted to reciprocate upon the latter within said casing with the opening and closing movements of said arms.
2. A collapsible camp stove, comprising a supporting guide, a stationary spreader head carried at one end thereof, an adjustable supporting stop nut threaded on the other end thereof, a pointed head removably mounted on said guide below said supporting stop nut, a casing secured to said heads and surrounding said guide, article supporting arms slidably mounted and radially movable in said spreader head and casing, and a bearing ring surrounding said guide and pivotally connected to the inner ends of said arms whereby the latter have a limited movement and are alternately supported by said stop nut and spreader head.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
