PRESSURE REGULATOR.
APPLICATION FILED AUGJB. 1915- 1.,166,@%7., Patented De0.28,1915

PRESSURE-REGULATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 11915.
Application filed August 18, 1915. Serial No. 46,104.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, EDWIN G. lVErsGER- BER and FREDERICK C. LEINROTH, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State ofPennsylvania, citizens of the United States, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Pressure-Regulators, of which improve ment the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to gas pressure regulators and the object thereof is to improve the construction of the valves used in such regulators.
In the accompanying sheet of drawin s which forms part of our specification we have illustrated the preferred embodiment of ourinvention.
Figure 1 is a vertical central sectional view of a complete regulator; Fig. 2 a sectional view taken on the line II II, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 a perspective view of the valve.
The pressure regulator, as far as concerns its general construction, may be of any suitable form. That shown herein is of a well known type comprising a casing having a body portion 1, and a cover 2 deinclosed in a tachably connected to it. phragm 3, clamped between the body 1 and cover 2, is held upwardly by the pressure of the gas on the lower side thereof and against the resistance of a spring 4,-
the pressure of which may be adjusted by means of a screw 5. To the lower side of the diaphragm there is attached one end of a lever 6, pivoted as at 7, and provided at its opposite end with a valve which will be presently described. The body portion tion 8, which divides such portion into a pressure chamber 9 and a relief chamber 10,
'communicating with each other through a mercury seal 11. As will be seen, a by pass 12 places the upper side of the diaphragm in communication with the relief chamber 10.
While the pressure regulating apparatus casing as herein shown and described is our preferred form, it will be understood that apparatus may be employed, such ratu's having asa part thereof a valve-carrying member such as the lever B.
In the valve construction which we provide the valve is detachably secured .to the 14 bears upon the A flexible dia other well known types of movable cess 15 between the body of the pin and such head. The valve 16 which may be disk-shaped, preferably, comprises a metal cup 24 having an opening 25 at its base, a
metal washer 26 adjacent to such opening, and a body of packing material 27, as, for example, rubber. The end of the head washer 26, thus evenly distributing pressure upon the gasket or packing 27, and aflording suflicient freedom of movement to effect a proper seating of the valve. The yielding element for attaching the valve to the pin is preferably a spring hook 17 attached to the valve and adapted to snap around the pin, as clearly indicated in the drawings. Also, to prevent the valve from rotating in a horizontal plane, it is provided with a laterallyextending guide piece 18, adapted to fit into a guideway 19, which is preferably an elongate slot formed in the casing wall. Adjacent to the valve 16 the casing 1 is provided with an opening 20 affording the aforesaid access to the valve forits adjustment, removal or replacement. The casing is also provided with an inlet orifice 21, having a removable valve seat 22, and an outlet orifice 2E;
We'claim as our invention:
1.-In a pressure regulator, the combination of a casing lnclosing a regulating ap including a pivoted lever, an advalve-carrying pin attached to said a casing inclosing a regulating aplever and provided with a "spherically shaped head, a valve abutting against the spherical end of said pin, a yielding element secured to said valve and .detachably engaging said pin at the rear of its head.
3. In a pressure regulator, the combination of a casing inclosing a regulating apparatus including a pivoted lever, an adjustable valve-carrying pin attached to said lever. a valve provided with a laterally extending guide piece, a yielding'element secured to said valve and detachably engaging said pin, said casing adjacent to said valve being provided with an opening through which the valve may pass and be connected to or disconnected from said pin, and the casing being further provided with a guideway adapted to. receive the guide piece of said valve. i
4. In a pressure tion of a casing inclosing a regulating apparegulator, the combina- 7 ratus including a pivoted lever, an adjustable valve-carrying pin attached to said lever and provided with a spherically shaped head, a valve abutting against the spherical end of said pin,'a yielding hook secured to said valve and adapted to snap around said pin at the rear of the aforesaid head thereof, a laterally extending guide piece secured to the valve, said casing adjacent to the valve being provided with an opening through which the valve may pass and be connected to or disconnected from said pin, and said casing being fur ther provided with an elongate recess adapted to receive the guide piece of the valve.
In testimony whereof We have hereunto set our hands.
EDWIN C. WEISGERBER. FREDERICK C. LEINROTH.
