,l, B, are the inclined sides of a bottom folding device rising" from the outer edges ofthe slots. and lit. iii. are Vend pieces attached to ysuch sides to forinthe end of the bottoni folder. i i
B is a rear tiap guide with an inclined face B5.
B7 is a front ilap guide'j'lever pivted in 'a slot inthe table at BR and its upper end into the path of the carton.
rlhus when the expanded4 carton such as illustrated in Fig. 2 is pressed down into the f bottom folder, the front and rear flaps of the bottoni are folded inwardly as Shown in Fig. 2%' while the side iiaps pass down through the slots. ll'hen the carton has been brought to the lowei` end'of its downward excursion. it is pushed forward in the direction indicated b v tlic'ai'row in Fig. 1, andbv this action the side naps will be thrown .outwardly as indicated in Fig. 4l,
iin-til they have assumed a substantial -liorizontal position.
,table it will lpass between the vertical belts A, C .which are carried bv thevertical pulleys C1. C21 rlhe pulleys@2 :are mounted on a shaft, supported-'in the lower bearings C3'l and-- upper' bearings C4 which are respef tively .secured to the table or brass'plate.
'fliepnlleys C1, C, are mounted and driven' bvmeansof the drivingY connections from liv further, pushing the carton Vforward along; the brass plate" and 8() the shaft C5, pulley Cifbelt C7, pulley C8 from the inain driveshaft C, which is itself driven by the linltbelt Cm. ,The arrangegiven .a forward motioiiin the direction indicated `by the arrow inligs. 1 and 10 so that the cartonsfivill be carried forward and .maintained in amerect position by the Btwo belts.
@11, C, are plates within the'belts to furnish a backing for them. These platesjare held in positi'onby angle loar Vbraces C12, C12, and C, C, secured to the brasspirate or the table .or both. The. driving connections l l from the verticali -pulleys C1, C1, to the driving shaft consists of the vertical shafts C,
C, beveled gears' C thereon, meshing with 0"5 the beveled 2(fears tf1", G on the shaft C5.
D is a gum receptacle over which .is mounted on the shaftV D1, the two-part lguinming` roll which dips 'intothe guinining lrecqatacle and ca"'esit to the line of .travel of the laterilljvf extending, horizontallyfdisl the pulleys M1, M1 for Figs 7 and. 8. rThe foldedy flops poss uno rien-ees I to th-iin. contains s deflect-or L1 nrrzinged to successively lift the two flops.
L11 is s linger which rides 'upon the top or" the csrton holding the two end 'deps in position..
L18 and L19 ere suitably mounted curves on the inner edges of the seperated pistes L15., L15, adopted to complete the inward folding` o the side deps suggests.;
the' torwsrd adjacent ends L15, where they are pressed i M, t/l are standards mou groups or. vthe freine, end i'novided 'with bearings for the shafts lli-1, which Corry lt M1. This belt is adapted to cooperate with the belt F to hold the sealed bottom and top of the carton and move it along.
M1 'is o weight between the 'folds of. the belt M3 and adapted to ride on the lower reach thereof. This weight has downwardly projecting edges M5 to' inclose the upper end of the carton and hold.` it in position. The weight is preferably adjustably held by means of :t 'structure which is exactly like that illustrated in Fig; '14e-hereafter to be described. @ne of the shafts Ml is provided with a pulley conerating with a like pulon thetable N1 which 11s-supported by e:
ley on 'the shaft F5 and the two ere connected by thetwisted belt M whereby the belt M is driven. By-thismeans the forward `carton is given opportunity todry and is carried to the end of its direct excursion.
N'is e rojeotionin the path of the can ton near tie end ofits excursion and :roepted to -thro-w the carton! N1 to one side and slightly turn it as indieeted et N1. ln this Iposition .it travels forward ultimately strik-1, ing the deflector N which position indicated at "N4,
y and nelly discharges it in the position indicated et lill",
vertical rod N7 in the bearings N8 and rests up in, or at its lower'end is attached to the lever N 'pivoted et N10, and provided with an extending arm which carries the weights N11 and is connected et its outer end with the linlr N12 which s attached et N11 to one en d of an elbow crunk lever. pivoted at Nb1 and connected at N15 with the long link N11, which is connected to thepusher formed of the two plates N17, N18 at right angles to each other. As thetable N19 descends under the influence of the weight ol the package, delivered upon it, this system f levers and links is operated to cause the pusher to force the carton to the right as indicated in Fig. 12 od of the platform while at the some time the part N17 of the pusher prevents fouling .l `015 which is mounted in suitable bearings of the apparatus of 4the delivery onto the' plate koi' another carton. The shaft F1 is provided with` the gear wheel @meshing ,with the wheel O'- on the short shaft' @2 which es rries the pulley O3 which drives the lower belt. The shaft also Carries e pulley O5 adopted to drive the twisted belt O to operate the pulley 01 on the shaft O8, which shaft is supported in bearings O9`on the top of the standards 01 and drives the -belt U11. ,The other end of the belt O is supported by the idler pulley 011 on the shat't 013, find the other end of the belt G11 is supported by the pulley O11 on the shaft on the uprights 016.
- To properly weigh the packages and hold their 'esled ends together as they pass on between these upper end lower belts 0 and @11, we provide the weight P provided with downwardly projecting parts* P1 which in# close the carton. This weight lies between the reaches of the upper -belt and rests upon the lower reach of that' belt. A. pin P1 passes through the weight and is secured at each end to the' slides P3 upwardly held by spiral springs?A1 on the standards P5 which are provided with the set nuts P whereby the tens-ion oi. the. springs and the effective pressure of the weight P may be adjusted. 95, '.lliere'may be e series of these weight sup-- porting apparatuses arranged along the convey'er, and the conveyor may be of any desiredlength.
The guide bracket G51 is cut sway as indi- 100 ceted both inlfig. 9 and in Fig.' l s at G52 st a point opposite the star wheel G so that when the star wheel is released and it commences to rotate responsive to the pressure ner of the carton tend to press it over into the cutout 'portmn or' the guide.
