To all Iwim/n 'it mag/.concern Be it known that I, Nuouz B. Hasi, subjectl of the ttoman Empire, and residing 1n Paris, Fra nee, have invented certain neu' and useful Improvement-s in Roller-Bearings, of which the follouf'ing is a specification.
'In the different attempts Whichhave been inade o employ roller bearings for heavy loads difficulty has been encountered resulting from lateral shocks due to the force of projection vvhen vehicles moving at a high speed undergo a change of direction. In order to obviate this disadvantage the present invention provides-an arrangement permitting a roller bearing to withstand such lateral shocks -without adversely ade-sting its parallel mmIenient, the lateral shocks according to this arrangement being absorbedby the casing of the bearing itself, the friction upon the end abutment of the'bearing resulting from these shocks being at the saine time considerably reduced.
According to the system constituting the subject matter of the invention a steel ring is arrangedv transversely to the journal and adjacentfto the rollers, this vring being se- Vcured in the roller cage by a bearing sleeve which closes the bearmg casing andis secured by a number of bolts to this casing. A number of thinl steel annular disks independent of one another are arranged between the steel ring above'referred to and other rings transmitting lateral stresses, these annular disks constituting the friction surface of considerable area thereby diminishing the risk of seizing, while at the same time the construction is capable of resisting lateral shocks without in]ury to any parts of the bearing, since the arrangements for rotary movement are quite independent of the arrangementsi'or withstanding end thrust.
The bearing system of the invention above described which is particularly suitable for railway services will be clearly understood from the f'following description relating to the accompanying drawing which illustrates in longitudinal section a form of bearing suitable for axles of railway vehicles, and especially for the driving axles of such vehicles. l

In the event of lateral shocks upon the bearing, one or other of the ringslor J approaches the stationary ring F and either the disks or l are pressed-one against the 95 other according to the direction of the lateral shock experienced by the bearing.
The individual disks of one or other of the o.- or Z which are freely mounted in their respective places in the bearing can, if the stress to which they are subjected is sutilrientiy great. be displaced relative to one an-` other without seizing, the friction surfaces being greatly increased owing to the number ot' the disks, thus having the result of4 preventing any injuryV to the bearing or rotating surfaces dueto seizing. v
The arrangement above described, the function of which is to resist lateral shocks, can evidentlyY be applied to both ends of each bearing in which case disks would provided at eachend of the rollers instead f onlyl at one end as shown in the drawing.
