To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, I-IARRY- B. iPRUDEN, a citizen-of the United States, residing at New Castle, in the county of Lawrence and State offiPennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'Siphonic Feed- .ers forCom inuted Material, of which the following is a specification.
This'inventionrelates to devices for feeding finely comminuted material and has special reference to a device for feeding such material by siphonic action.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an improved device wherein the rna terial will be fed from a hopper 'or'the like by siphonic action in a manner similar to drawing off water from a tank by a siphon.
A second object of the invention is to provide an improved form of siphon for delivering such material.
With the above and other objects in view' the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described,
illustrated in the accompanying drawings,

' In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure l is a view show mg one form of the device as applied to such a mixture as is shown and described in my phonic beater. Fig. 3 is a view of a second modification thereof.
In the device shown in Fig. 1 there is provided a hopper- 10 having an open bottom 11 whereto is secured a boot 12 so that the material in the hopper is fed down into the boot. Depending into this boot is an end 13 of a siphon tube 14 which extends down to the inlet side 15 of an injector 16 provided with a jet of high pressure air through a pipe 17 controlled by a valve ,18.
In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3 there is provided a hopper 19 having a closed bottom 20 and in each of these forms there is provided the siphon 21 having an, end 22 extending down into the hopper.. sisting of a pipe ring 23 provided with suit able perforations 24. This pipe ring is spaced below the inlet end of the siphon and surroundsthe axis of said'inlet end. Furthermore the ring 23 is provided with high pressure air through a tube-25 controlled by a suitable valve 26. This valve is best seen in Fig.3.
In the form shown in Fig. 2 there extends upward through the bottomof the hopper 19 a jet pipe '27 which is controlled by a valve 28. The upper end of this jet pipe terminates in a nozzle 29 which extends upward into' the mouth of'the siphon 21, the nozzle being spaced from the walls ofsaid siphon. j In the form shown in Fig. =3 there is provided a T 30 betweernthe valve 26 and the ring 23 and branching from this is a jet pipe 31 which extends laterally inward and terminates in .an upwardly extending nozzle 32 arranged; in all respects similar to the nozzle 29.

Thus'in all of these forms there is provided means creating a dust cloud at the mouthof the siphon and means for causing said dust 'cloud to How through the siphon. There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the llirind described and of the character speci- It will be obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is wished to include all such as come properly within the'scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is v I 1; In a device for feeding comminuted material, a hopper,
pipe connected tothe ring pipe to supply air thereto.
