WILLIAM L. H ACKNEY AND JOSEPH M. HACKNEY, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
LUG-FASTENER FOR TRACTION-WHEELS- Application filed March 5, 1913. Serial No. 752,125.
.To all 'LU/tom 'er 'in ay con/fera Beit known that we, WILLIAM L. Haen- Nisf and Josemi M. liminer, citizens of the United States, residing at tilt. Paul, iii Ramsey county, in the State of ltlinnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lug-Fasteners for Traction-Wheels, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements though adapted for traction wheel lugs. Its object is to provide a cheap, durable and eiiicient clip adapted to be quickly and easily applied to secure a lug` to the riin orremoved to perinit the detachment of said lug therefrom.
In the drawings, Figure l is a detail perl of our improved fasteningr clip; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view ot' the sanie illustrated in position securing a lug to the rim ot. a traction wheel, and llig. 3 is a central longitudinal sectional viewl of the same.
Referring to the drawings, we have used to indicate the flange ll at its toe and a dowi'iturned flange l2 at its heel. rlhe clip is also torined with a centrally arranged key-hole opening coinprising a slot 13 extending longitudinally` and terminating in the enlarged perforation li near its toe. A transverse'depression or seat l5 is fornied in 'the clip adjacent to the heel thereof and said clip curved or clined upward from its toe to its heel. The lug- 16, used with this clip, has an anchor or connecting holt 17, formed with shoulders i8 and is applied to a traction wheel by in- :eiertingthe holt .Il through a peiloration l!) 'in the rim I 4 `in such position. the clip is placed upontlie QUJthere-oi". In securing the lug inner periph' or the riin iu position with the holt l? protrrulingy through the perforatioiila. The clip is nioved hy hand, the bolt 17 passing through the slot lil, until the iiielined or upwardly',curved portions of the clip adjacent to said slot engage beneath the shoulders ot the holt. rthe .flange l2, at the heel ot' this drive the clip under the shoulders itl oi the holt 17 to a position where said shoulders rest in the seat l5 and loeli said eli'p. To detach the clip the iiange l1, at its toe, is struck to reniove the seat 15 li'roin engagement with the shoulders i8 olf-the holt l? and to shift the clip and register the pei-ifo- Specification of Letters Patent.
adapted to he received in said resilient clip formed with iii-- resilient elip. is then struck to ll'atented Dee. 28,1915.- Renewed May 24, 1915. Serial No. 30,215. ration l-l. with the bolt, thus permitting the removal oi the clip therefrom.
Having described our invention, what we Y iflaiiu as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:
l. In adeviee of the-class described, a resilient clip-formed with a longitudinal open ing therein and with a depression, transverse to said opening, extending across one face ot' said clip near one end thereof, a bolt opening and shoulders on said bolt arranged to tit into said depressionand secure the clip with respect to said bolt.
In a device of the class described, a resilient clip formed with a key-hole opening extending longitudinally thereof, a flange on each end of the clip turned in opposite directions therefrom, said clip being formed with a depression extending transversely across the contracted end of said opening, on the face' of the clip opposite the adjacent flange.
3. ln a device o1c the class' described, the combination with a wheel having a perforated riin, a lug having an 'anchorbolt formed with shoulders thereon and adapted to project through said perforation, ol" a a longitudinal hey-hole opening therein and with a depression transverse tol said opening, extending across one face of said clipv near one end thereof, a flange on said end turned away from the tace containing said depression, said clip being adapted to be interposed and toi-red between the inner periphery of said rim and the shoulders ot the bolt to engage.
said shoulders in said transverse depression and lock the lug upon the riin of the wheel.
4C. ln a devicevof the elass'described, the .foinbination with -a wheel having a perforated riiii, a lug 'having an anchor bolt `"foi-ined' with shoulders thereon and adapted to project through said perforation, of a resilient clip toi-ined with a transverse depression near one end thereof and with Aa longitudinal key-hole opening, a flange at ea -li end oi said clip turned in opposite directions therefrom, said clipjbeing adapted lo' to lie interposed and torced between the 111--,
dinal opening therein amdV With :i depression names to this specc'ton in the presenoe of n one face, thereof transverse to said open- 'two subsorbng witnesses.
ing,.a bolt adapted to be reheved in said WILLIAM L. HACKNEY. v opening l21nd shoulders on said bolt arranged 'JOSEPHV M. HACKNEY. 5 to t into said depression and secure the clip Witnesses:
In testimony whereof, We havesigned our R.' K. MURPH'f
