To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Yvns LE BIHAN, a c1t1- v zen of the Republic of France, and residing an increased diameter at its lower part,
which lower part of the cylinder has to. serve as a compression pump for feeding the neighboring cylinder. Each cylinder is therefore composed of a main or power cylinder and a compression pump cylinder.
This inventionis characterized in that each compression pump feeds the neighboring main cylinder and that the feeding is by way of openings in the lower part of the main cylinder forming the upper part of the compression pump, a common distribution chamber into which the said openings lead, a horizontal wall in the said chamber for separating the said openings and admission ports arranged in the wall of the motor cylinders, and dividing the distribution chamber into an upper and lower division, two openings in the said horizontal wall, a vertical partition in the form of L-1 between the said openings in the lower distribution chamber, another vertical partition in the form of between the said openings in the upper division of the said chamber, openings at the lower part of the cylinders for admitting the explosive mixture and a slot arranged in each motor piston for communicating the said carbureter with each one of the compression pumps.
I will ,now describe my invention with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of a pair of cylinders of the two-cycle engines embodying the features of the present invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are corresponding sections along the lines AA and BB of Fig. 1.

each other so that the compression pump formed by each of them feeds the neighboring motor cylinder. The engine will thus be formed by a certain number of pairs of cylinders arranged at the side of each other.
The motor cylinders a are provided on their walls with two series of opposite ports 6, b", c, c, the ports 5, Z) serving for the admission of the explosive mixture compressed by the pump 6 of the adjoining cylinder, and the others 0, 0 serving for the exhaust of the gases after having worked in the corresponding motor cylinder at. A deflector f is provided on the motor piston d so as when admitting the fresh gases to prevent them escaping directly through the exhaust ports 0, c which are at this moment uncovered. The admission ports I), b of each cylinder respectively open out into the chambers g, 9 (Fig. 2) formed by the walls of the said cylinders and a casing h and together constituting a distribution chest. This chest has a floor 2' which divides it into two stages, into one of which open out as indicated the admission ports 6, b of the motor cylinders, whereas in the other stage are arranged openings j, j communicating with the cylinders e of the compression pumps. Furthermore at the base of the main or motor cylinders a openings is are formed each communicating with the cylinder 6 of the corresponding pump by means of a channel Z formed in the piston.
Each stage of the chest is subdivided into two compartments, the upper ones 9, g which correspond to the admission ports I) are separated by a vertical partition Z (Fig. 2) thus forming a vertical channel on either side of the partition opening out into the floor 71, through the openings m, m. The lower chambers 72, n are also separated by a vertical partition 0 which forms a vertical channel on either side, the openings of which in the floor 2' correspond to those m, m of the upper channel; but this partition 0 is arranged so that the vertical channel of the chamber 9 is connected up to that of the chamber 72, whereas the channel of the chamber 9' corresponds to that opening out into the chamber n. As on the lower floor are formed connecting each pump to the corresponding chamber a, n, it will be seen that by this simple arrangement each compression pump e can be made to communicate with the neighboring motor cylinder a. The compression pumps 6 are fed on the other hand through openings k which open out into a chamber 11 connected to the carbureter and a packing segment 1* forms a joint around the piston d between the motor cylinder a and that of the compression pump. In these conditions the working is as follows. The cranks of the pistons d of each pair of cylinders are arranged at 180. In the position shown the iston on the left is near the end of its stro e, that is to say the explosive mixture having worked in the cylinder a escapes through the ports a which the motor piston d has uncovered. The admission takes place and the burnt gases are driven out. Indeed at this moment the explosive mixture has been compressed by the pump onthe right belonging to the adjoining chambers n and when the ports I) have been uncovered the fresh gas enters the cylinder a for finishing the scavenging of the burnt gases and formugfhe working charge.
uring the expansion it will be seen that the piston on the left before reaching the end of the descending stroke, has uncovered the opening it and by means of the channel I has caused the cylinder e of its 'pum to communicate with the chamber p whic communicates with the carbureter.
The ports b of the other cylinder are closed inasmuch as the corresponding piston has not passed beyond its half stroke. The suction which is produced in the cylinder 6 of V the ump consequently occasions the introstituting the upper part of the com duction of the explosive mixture.
As the piston is working at a certain speed and has occasioned a definite degree of vacuum in the cylinder e of the pump and in each of the chambers g, n, there results a suction action assuring the complete char 'ng of the cylinder.
W at I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A two-stroke cycle engine having two neighboring cylinders, each of which has two difi'erent diameters dividing the cylinder into a motor or power cylinder and a compression pump c linder with openings in the lower part of t e power cylinder conression pump, a common distribution chain 1' into which lead the said openings, anda horizontal wall in the said chamber to separate the said openings and the admission ports in the walls of the motor cylinders.
2.
