Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec.. 1t, 1915.
Application led October 8, 1914. Serial No. 865,616.
T all whom it may concern j Be it known that I, JACOB Fnmnron HUBER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Dispensing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists ofr mechanism whereby a plurality of liquid materials may be dispensed and directed simultaneously to one source of collection.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereofmay be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described.
Figures 1 and 2 represent vertical sections at a right angle to each other of a dispensing apparatus embodying my invention. Figs. 3 and l represent horizontal sections on line Fig. 1, certa-in parts thereof in one figure being in different positions from those in the other figure. Figs. 5 and 6 represent horizontal sections online g/-Q, Fig. 1, certain parts thereof in vone figure being in different positions 'from those in the other figure. Fig. 7 represents a horizontal section on line z--Fa Fig. 1.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures. l
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a syrup can or other supplying vessel, the bottom of which is supported on a shoulder on the exterior of the casing 2 of the rotary valve or plug 3. In the lower end of the said valve is the angular port 4, the upper limb of which is adapted to be placed in communication with the angular' passage 5 which is formed in the oifset 6 on the Vside of the casing 2, and extends vertically therein it being in communication at the top with the can so as to direct the contents of the same to the upper limb of said port. The lower limb of the latter is in communication with the nozzle 7 which is screwed into or otherwise connected with the lower end of the valve 3 and depends therefrom within the enlarged nozzle 8 which is secured to and depends from the bottom of the casin 2, and consequently surrounds said nozzle On the side of the valve casing 2 is the chamber 9 which contains the horizontally arranged valve 1 0 whose seat 11 is on said casing'. The outer end of the stem 10 of said valve is encircled bythe spring 12 which bears against the cap 13 which closes said chamber 9 and against the said valve 10, so as to force the latter to said seat. The inner end of said stem freely enters the bore 141 of said seat, said vchamber 9 havingv connected with it the soda conveying tube 15 which extends from a fountain so as to supply said chamber with such water.
In the valve or plug 3 is the channel 16 circumferentially thereon, the same being 'in communication with the bore 14C leading from the valve seat Iliand being surrounded by the channel 17 circumferentially on the inner wall of the casing 2, the two channels being in communication so that the inner end of the stem of the valve l0 may enter the same when said valve closes on its seat andcuts oif' the supply of soda from the chamber 9 to said channels, it being noticed that in the side of the valve 3 are the ducts 18 which extend vertically therein from the channel 16 to the laterally extending ports 19 in the lower end'of the casing 2, said ports opening into the nozzle 8 so as to discharge'soda water intov the latter when the valve 10 is open.
The nozzle 7 has on its side a shoulder 2O on which is seated the asket 21, which bears against the lower end of the casing 2 to form a tight joint for the lower end of the valve 3 thereat.
In the valve 3 above the port l is the horizontally extending bore 22 in which is the pin 23, one endof which is adapted to engage the inner end of the stem 10X of the latter to open said valve and to leave the same to permit said valve to close, as will be herelinafter more fully explained. The pin 28 is movable in the bore 22 so as to adjust the throw of the said valve 10, this being accomplished by means of the screw 24 which occupies the neck 25 on the side of the casing 2 and has its point adapted to contact with one end of said pin so that the opposite end of the latter may engage with the stem 1()X and impart more or less throw thereto and consequently to the valve thereon. The head of said screwis covered by a suitable cap to cover and protect the same and prevent tampering. therewith. In the side of the lower portion of the casing 2 is fitted the screw 26 whose inner end 27 is beveled and adapted to enter the base of the syrup-conveying channel 5, and so adjust the supply of the syrup to the port 4 and consequently to the discharge nozzle 7.
isb
The outer end of the portion 28 of the Vcasing which the screw 26 occupies is occupied by the cap 29 which closes the bore of said portion and covers the head of saidscrew 26 to cover. and protect the same and prevent tampering therewith.
The lower end of the casing 2 has the circular groove or recess 30 therein, the saine extending from one side port 19 to the other in said end, so that they communicate whereby when the soda water discharges from the lower ends of the ports 1S it enters said groove 30 ycirculates therein and is distributed around the bottom of the casing wherey it reaches the several side ports 19 from whence it is injected in a comparatively large quantity or several streams into the nozzle 8, said grooves being closed from below by the gasket 21 which is'held tightly against said end of the casing by the shoulder 20 on the nozzle '7.
Projectinglaterally from the upper end of the valve 3 is a pin 30X, which plays in a recess 31 inthe upper end of thel casing 2. The ends of the said recess form stops 32 which indicate the open and closed positions ofthe valve. Forithe purpose of turning the valve the handle stem 33 is secured to it.
rlhe operation is as follows:-The can is properly supplied with syrup and the tube 15 connected with the fountain or supply of soda water. Then a drink is required the valve 3 is turned say one quarter Whereby the port t is placed in vcommunication with the passage 5 when the syrup flows rom'the can through said passage into said port and from thence into the nozzle 7 from the bottom of which it enters the drinking glass vessel placed below it; simultaneously therewith, the'pin 23 carried by the valve 3 engages the'stem of the valve 10 andpresses against the same moving the'latter named valve from` its seat when the soda water in the'chamber 9 passes through the valve seat 11, the bore 14, the ducts 18, and the lateral ports 1J and so is injected into the nozzle 8 vand from the'latter into saiddrinking glass orL vessel, whereby the soda water and syrupV are supplied to the latter at one operation and iiitermixed therein.
When the valve is turned one quarter in the opposite direction'the port 4 is cutl off from the passage 5, and thus the 'flow of syrup into the valve 3 ceases while the pin 13'carried bythe valve is removed from the stem of the valve k10 and itsend rotates in the grooves 16, and 17, whereby as said valve stem is no longer controlled by said pin,'the valve 10 under the action of thespring 12 closes on its seat, vand thus the flow' of soda `.water ceases, both flows being simultaneously cutoii'.
In the vessel l'the handle rod is out of center, whereby a greater space exists at the side of' said rod toward the front of the vessel, so that the latter can be filled more conveniently at its top. lVhen the vessel is placed perpendicular in position, as shown by the dotted lines Fig. 1, and all other parts are in harmony therewith, the discharge nozzle or outlet is thrown to the. front so that the drinking vessel can be placed more conveniently under said outlet. Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isz- 1.
