RICHARD E. HESS, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
LAMP-BRACKET.

Application led 'March 3, 1913.
To @ZZ whom t may concern: y
Be it known that l, RICHARD E. Hass, a citizen oi' the United States7 and resident oi Milwaukee, in the county ot Milwaukee and State ot Wisconsin, have invented new and useful improvements in Lamp-Brackets, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in lamp brackets and has for its object to provide a simple and durable support for electric or other lamps, capable of a variety and great range of adjustments.
A further object oit' the invention is to provide a lamp bracket in which when used with electric lamps, the circuit wires are protected from injury by theportions of the brackets. i
A further object ot the invention is to provice a lamp bracket of simple construction, strong and durable and which may be manufactured for a minimum cost.
1With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists oi' the improved lamp bracket and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.
ln the accompanying drawing in which thesame reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views: Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of the improved lamp bracket shown in connection with the circuit wires and a portion of an incandescent lamp socket; and Fig. Q is a. view taken at right angles to Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 5 indicates the flanged tubular base member of the improved lamp bracket having the upper portion ot' its bore 6 oit conical formation with the larger diameter extending uppermost to receive the tapered pin 'Z oil the pivot block 8 mounted on top oi' the base member. rlhe lower portion 9 ot' the base bore is of larger diameter than the upper portion to provide the shoulder l0 against which a coiled spring 11 surrounding the lower extension 12 ot' the pin bears. A nut 13 threaded on the extension and bearing against a washer 14 interposed between the nut and the spring serves, in connection with the spring, to yieldingly and irictionally hold the pivot block in adjusted position on the base.
Two spaced parallel bars 15 positioned on opposite sides of the block 8 andv pivoted Speci'caton of Letters Patent.

thereto by the bolt 16 iorm the lower vertical member oi' the bracket. Portions o the bars above the block are held in spaced relation' by the spools 17 and 17 positioned between the bars and held by the bolts 18 and 18 which extend through the bars and the spools. The spools may be formed of insulating material if desired to better protect the circuit wires`19 positioned between the bars and engaging the spools.
The upper or approximately horizontal member 20 of the bracket is also formed of two parallel bars 21 which are pivoted to the upper end of the vertical member by the bolt 18, are positioned against the outer i'aces of the upper spool 17 and are interposed between the said spool and the bars 15; the spool serving to space'the bars Q1 apart.
A U-shaped lamp holding member 22 pivoted to the tree end of the upper member 2O by a bolt 23 is provided with a threaded opening 24: through its lower portion 25 to receive the upper end of the threaded lamp socket member 26.
rihe upper ends of the lamp holding member 2Q. are spaced apart by a spool 27 which is mounted on the' bolt 23, the said upper ends being positioned between the spool ends and the bars 21.
The insulated circuit wires 19 extend over and around the spools and are `held in position between the bars thereby by extending the wires on opposite sides of adjacent spools and at the points of bends by positioning one of the wires on each side of the spools.
'l` he frictional engagement of the members at the joints may be increased or diminished by means of the nuts 27 threaded on the bolts 18, 18 and 23.
1n use the frictional engagement ot the members at the joints serves to hold the members in adjusted position and the yielding connectirn of the vertical member permits the upper portion of the bracket to be swung horizontallv to any position desired and to be held in its adiusted position.
From the 'foregoing description it will be seen that the lamp bracket is of very simple constructifn and well adapted for the purpose described.
`What l claim as my invention is:
1. A lamp bracket, comprising a base member, a block pivotally connected thereto, a pair of spaced parallel bars pivoted to the block, another pair of spaced parallel bars pivotally connected to the outer ends of the first mentioned bars, spacing members interposed between said bars, and a U- shaped lamp holding member having its stem portions pivoted to the outer ends ot' the second mentioned bars, the space between said bars serving to receive electric circuit wires.
2. A lamp bracket, comprising a base member, a block vieldingly pivotallv connected thereto, a pair of' spaced parallel bars pivoted to the bltck, another pair of spaced parallel bars pivotally connected to the outer ends of the first mentioned bars, spacing members interposed between said bars, and a U-shaped lamp holding member having its stem portions pivoted to the outer ends ofthe second mentioned bars, the space between said bars serving to receive electric circuit wires.
3. A lamp bracket, comprising a base member having a vertically extending opening, a block mounted on the base member and having a pin which extends through the opening of the block, a spring engaging the base member and the ,pink for holding the block yieldingly pivotally in engagement with the base member, a pair of bars pivotally connected to the blocks and eX- tendingr in parallel alinement, spools spacing the bars apart, means extending through the barsv and the spools Jfor holding the parts together, a second pair of bars pivotally connected to the free ends of thek first mentioned bars, spools spacing the second mentioned bars apart, and a lamp holding member pivotally connected to the outer ends of the second mentioned bars, the spacing between said bars serving to receive electric circuit wires which are held in position by the spools.
4:. A lamp bracket, comprising a base member having a verticall37 extending tapered opening, a block mounted on the base member and having a tapered pin which extends through the tapered opening of the base, a coiled spring surrounding the pin and bearing against the bas-e member, a means carried b v the pin for engaging the spring, a pair of parallel bars engaging opposite sides of the block and pivotallv connected thereto, said pivotal connection being at right angles with relation to the pivotal connection of the blrck and the base, spools spacing the bars apart, bolts extending through the bars and the spools for holdingT the parts together, a second pair of bars pivotallv connected to the free ends of the first mentioned pair, spools spacing the sccond mentioned bars apart` and a U-shaped lamp holding member having its stem portions pivotallv connected to the outer free ends of the second mentioned bars, said U- .shaped member provided with a threaded opening for receiving a lamp socket, the spacing between said bars serving to receive electric circuit wires which are held in position bv the spools.
In testimrny whereof, afiix my signature, in presence of tvvo witnesses.
