CLARENCE F. LONG, OF MASON CITY, IOWA.
FISH-BAIT BUCKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 14, 1915.
Application filed October 7, 1914. Serial No. 865,437.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE F. Loxo, a c tizen of the United States, residing at Mason City, in the county of Cerro Gordo and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fish-Bait Buckets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bait buckets of the type commonly employed for the transportation of the live bait. such as minnows, or the like, though it is of utility in any relation where a ventilated, water tight and covered receptacle is desired.
The object of the invention is to provide an article of the character set forth in which the cover is so constructed that it may be very readily moved to either open or closed position and in wh ch the cover may be locked in either the open or closed position by the same locking element.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which now follows:
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bait bucket constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof; and Fig. 3 is a detail side view of one of the ears with the bail removed.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, 5 designates the body of the bait bucket, which has ears 6 upon the opposite sides thereof with which a. bail 7 is engaged in the usual and well known manner.
The invention resides particularly in the cover of the bait bucket and in the means for securing the same. This cover comprises a fixed, perforate member 8 and a rotatable member 9. The fixed member 8 comprises a ring-like portion 10 which is bent over the upper edge of the body 5 at 11. One half of the circle defined by the ring like portion 10 is spanned by a perforate web 12 and the edge of this web is stiffened by a bar 13 which underlies the same. A second, semi-circular web 14 is carried by a ring-like member 15 and carries a stiffening bar 16 along its edge. A pivot 16 11 of the member 10 and the end of the stiffening bar 16 is extended beyond said flange and then bent downwardly at 18 and bifurcated at 19 in such manner that it may be sprung over one of the ears 6 when the cover is in its closed position and, if desired, over the other ear (3 when the cover is in its open position, whereby this single locking element 18 is rendered operable at either of the limits of movement of the rotatable portion of the cover.
It is to be noted that the structure herein shown and described, while etiiciently serving the purposes sought is so designed that it may be manufactured at a very small cost and comprises no complicated parts likely to be put out of action by rust or hard usage. It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth but includes within its purview such changes as may be made within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim is:
A bait bucket comprising a body, ears and bail and a cover therefor comprising a fixed, perforate web covering substantially one-half of the bucket, a movable perforate web, arranged to cover the other half of the bucket. a stiffening bar extending along the edge of the last named web and pivoted to the first named web so that the movable web rotates horizontally with relation to the fixed web, the terminal end of said stiffening bar being extended beyond the web by which it is carried and downturned and bifurcated to adapt it for engagement with said ears.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLARENCE F. LONG.
Witnesses:
