To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, MIGI-IEAL F. OUBIAC, a citizen of the United States, residing at De troit, in the county of Jayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Scale- Holders; and I. do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertalns to make and use the same. a
This invention relates to an adjustable scale or rule holder and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature, which will facilitate the laying out of work by a machinist, pattern maker, or like workman.
Another object of this invention is to provide an adjustable holder for scales, which has a supporting base, having one face there of perfectly flat for abutment against'the working surface of a block of material being worked upon, and to support by this base a rule or scale, for facilitating measuring from the center line of the work.
With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as willbe hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

The sleeve 7 1s split and has tangentially extendmg ears 9 formed thereupon which are perforated for receiving the shank 10 of a thumb screw 11. The ear 9 is provided with a smooth perforation, while the perforation which extends through the ear 9 is inter: nally screw threaded, for clamping the sleeve 7 firmly upon thestandard 5, and holding the sleeves 8 and 7 and the web 8 which connects them at different adjusted vertical positions upon the standards 4 and 5.

'The thumb nut 28 1S mounted upon an externally screw threaded feed rod 29, which extends through avertical opening formed in the web, and downwardly lnto and partially through anopening 30 which is formed centrally] in and extends through the sup- 7 porting base1. The upper end of the feed rod or screw 29 is rigidly and securely connected to a lug31, which is'formed upon and depends from the web '8.
' g In the operation of the improved adjustable scale holder, when it is desired to adjust, the scale 16 for comparatively large "adjustments with respect to thebase 3, the

For minute adjustment of'the scale, the thumb screw 26is tightened whichse'curelyclamps the sleeves 20 and 21 upon thestandard, and the set screw 11 is loosened so as to permit ofthe sliding movement of thesleeves 6 and 7 and consequently of the scale 16 which is carried by the extension12. V After-the set screw 11 hasibeen loosened, the thumb nut 28 is manually-rotated, which feeds the feed rod 29 therethrough, and through the opening 30,
