PROCESS FQR CURLING HAIR YARN AND THE LIKE.
Application filed February 10, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen GnossLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Process for Curling Hair Yarn and the like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a process for curling yarns made from the hair or" Angora goats or like animals.
The object of my invention is to provide a process whereby the yarn to be curled may be treated and in such a manner as to eliminate unnecessary twisting and untwisting.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists in a certain process hereinafter described and more specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawing: Figure 1 is a side view of a core thread showing the hair yarn wound thereon; Fig. 2 is an end View of Fig. l. Fig. 3 shows one of the hair yarns after the process of being curled.
in the accompanying drawing A is a core thread, of cotton or other vegetable fiber, having one or more strands of yarn B and C wound thereon, (Figs. 1 and 2), and in such a manner as to eliminate any twist in said yarns B and C. The yarn is then deposited in a receptacle, preferably a box or basket made of copper and of an open or mesh construction, within which the yarn is securely retained. lhe copper box or basket is then deposited in a vat or like receptacle specification of Letters Patent.

and covered with water; a suitable percentage of sulfuric acid or other suitable carbonizing agent is introduced into the water, in the vat, at a subsequent period in the operation; the liquid and yarn are then boiled continuously for several hours after which the liquid is allowed to drain from said yarn; the yarn is then steamed under pressure, or dried at a temperature high enough to effect the carbonization of the vegetable core A that is within the wound or curled hair yarn B and C. The result is that the core thread A is destroyed by the above mentioned process and the hair yarn B or C, wound around said core thread A, is left free and curled (Fig. 8) and is now ready for use.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is The process of curling hair yarn or like material whereby the hair yarn is wound around a core thread of cotton, vegetable or soluble material, after which the hair yarn and core thread are treated in such a manner as to dissolve or destroy the core thread and retain the hair yarn in a curled state, tree from twist and ready for use.
in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE GROSSLAND.
