In a stenographic type-Writing machine, the combination with a plurality of key levers, of a horizontal rod upon which the rear extremities of* said levers are pivoted, a rod parallel to( the first mentioned rod, transversely extending above theumid- ',dle portions of the key levers, a plurality of type-bars equal in number to the key-levers, pivotedupon the last mentioned rod, an arm projecting rearwardly from each type-bar, a universal bar pivoted upon the last mentioned rod, a hook` projecting forwardly from each type-bar and engaging the universal bar, producing a displacement of the latter bar when any key is struck,.and means for automatically returning .the universal bar to its normal position, after any key 2. In a striking mechanism for stenographic type-writing machines, the combinationy with' a plurality of key'levers pivoted at their rear ends, of a plurality of type-bars, a hook projecting from each typebar, a transverse universal bar, pivoted uprights supporting the universal bar at their upper ends, said hooks normally engaging the universal bar, a coiled spring connected to the universal bar and to a stationary member, projections on the type-bars, and linksl attached to the key levers and the projections of the type-bars.
3. In na striking mechanism for stenographic type-Writing machines, the combination with a plurality of key'levers pivoted at their rear ends, of a plurality of typebars, a hook projecting from each type-bar,
a transverse universal 'bar in the-path of the hooks, pivoted uprights supporting, the universal bar at their upper ends, the hooks normally engaging the Iuniversal bar, a coiled s ri connected to the universal bar and` P Hg to a stationary member, projections. on the type-bars, links attached to the key levers and the projections of the type-bars, and spring members engaging the type-bars and holding the same in normal position.
