UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQTI ALONZO D. MGMASTER, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO JOHN W. STEBBINS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN COAL-SIFTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,207, dated June 20, 1871.
. sieve.
My invention relates to means for separating coal or other ashes from the cinders and coal; and consists in a novel construction and arrangement of an apparatus intended to serve efficiently for the purpose named.
A of the drawing represents a cover for a barrel, so constructed as to permit its circular flange to clasp readily over the top of such barrel. This cover A has a rectangular opening through its top, as shown, to permit the ashes to pass downward into the barrel. The letters B represent cleats attached firmly to the top of cover A, the enlarged ends of which are constructed so as to lap over toward each other,
as shown on Fig. 1, and thereby form grooves that serve to keep the sieve in place, and also as hinges to afl'ord facilities for removing the sieve at will, or attaching the same to the cover. These grooves are marked 0 on the drawing.
In addition to the cleats B as means for 'regu-- lating the sieve, I out recesses m in two sides of the square opening of the cover, against the respective ends of which the bumper-blocks on the sieve, hereinafter described, may strike as the sieve is moved back and forth. The letter D represents the sieve. It is constructed in the usual form of coal-sieves, and has two bumper-blocks (one on each side of the wirecloth) that Work back and forth within the recess m m of the cover. One of these blocks is shown and marked 41 on the drawing.
I claim as my invention The coal-sifting apparatus herein described, constructed with cover A having the cleats B with grooves 0, together with the sieve D having bumpers m, all arranged substantially as specified.
ALONZO D. MOMASTER.
