WILLIAM CLARK HAYS AND JOHN DOIJDBIDGE SCOTT, OF SHARONVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOG-STOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,183, dated June 20, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM CLARK HAYS and JOHN DODDRIDGE Scorr, of Sharonville, in the county of Pike and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hog-Stocks; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact de-- scription thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arran gement of a ho g-stock for the purpose of marking, nosing, and ringing hogs, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the side door removed; and Fig. 3, a front view of our hog-stock.
A represents a frame-box of any suitable dimensions, made narrower at the bottom and wider at the top, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3. B B are hinged gates at the rear end of the box, to form a chute to drive the hog in. C is a sliding door working horizontally to close the entrance. D is a perpendicular slide, working between the bars on the top of the box and catching in notches a a on the bottom to adjust for different sizes. E is a vertically-sliding door in the front, with a pivoted lever, G, to raise and lower at will, said door having ascallop or fork, b, in its lower edge the shape of the hogs neck. This door passes a horizontally sliding gate, H, having scallops d d to fit the lower part of the neck, the scallops d 01 being of various sizes to fit differentsized hogs. I is a side door hinged at its lower end to let down for the hog to go out.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi The combination of the tapering box A,
hinged gates B B, sliding door C, slide D catching in notches a a, hinged door I, forked gate E with lever G, and the sliding gate H with scallops d d, all constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 7th day of March, 1871.
WILLIAM CLARK HAYS. JOHN DODDRIDGE SCOTT.
