WEET-REPLENISHING LOOM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 1G, 1.915:
Application led May 4. 1915. Serial No. 25,828.
Be it known that 1. HENRY A. Ownv, a
kcitizen of the l'nited States, residing at- It includes. also. improved means for keeping the working end of the shuttle-feeler' slightly ahead of the back wall of the shut- ,tle-box during the forward. movement of the l lay at the time of the feeling action of the ii'res Iof the slotted control arm.
Having reference to the drawings, in the illustra 'ed embodiment of the invention the rockshaft 1, mounted in bearings at` the front. of the loom, and in practice combined and arranged to be rocked through the action of the weft-detector devices of the loom,
has affixed thereto at the replenishing side of the loom an upstanding arm 2. The said ,arm is made fast to the rockshaft by means of clamping screws Q, 2a. or in other approved manner. preferably with capacity for angularadjustment upon the rockshaft.
It has connected thereto above the rockshaft, by means of a pivot 3, a lever i having a. lower arm that is connected operatively with the dog or latch 5 of the transferrer 6. The
.said lower arm constitutes the control arm for the said dog or latch. In this instance it extends rearwardly, and is formed with a slot el receiving a lateral stud 5 that projects from the dog or latch. Lever -l has an upper arm that is connected operatively with the shuttle-feeler S. in this instance by means of a link T. mounted by means of a pivot 9 upon the inwa-rdly facing side of the iixed end-casting 10 of the feeler or magazine for containing the reserve supply of weft-carriers fr, .'v, etc., loaded with weft or filling. The rear end of the link T is connected b v a pivot 1l with an arm of the shuttle-feeler extending upward above the pivot 9 of the latter. yThe front end of the link is connected' by a 'pivot 12 with the said upper arm' of the lever 4,
' the said pivot 12 being adjustable in a horizontal slot 12rl in the said arm so as to permit adjustment ofthe'normal position of the shuttle-feeler. and regulation of the closeness of the approach of the'actingend of the feeler to the back wall of theshuttle-box. The lever l is movable around pivot 3 relative to the arm i. but normally is kept in a definite position with respect to the arm through being held against a stop at 13 upon the said arm b v means of a lspring 11, the latter being in this instance a contracting spiral spring having one end thereofengaged with the lower arm of lever 1 and the other end engaged with a stud 15 carried byy naryworking conditions the lever remains in contact with the stop, and when rockshaft l is rocked the lever l will move in unison with arm 2 justasthougli the lever was made in a single piece with the arm.` The spring, however. permits the lever to raove relative to the arm 2 at times, as present-ly will be explained. Under ordinary conditions, therefore. when the rockshaft 1 is rocked in the direction indicated bythe arrow in F 1. .under the control of the weft-detector devices of the'loom, the arm 2 and lever 1 will move as one around, the axis of the rockshaft. without any relativeturning of the lever around. the point 3 of its pivotal connection with arm :2. In this rocking movement the upper arm of lever l goes forward and through the link 7 operates the shuttle-feeler S so as to cause its acting portion to move rearward toward the-lay. At the same time, the lower arm of the'lever. in consequence of being caused to'riseysomewhat, rasesthe engaging portion of the dog or latch 5 ofthe transferrer' intoithe pathA of The shuttle-feeler' is' I a i nisln arranged to rock the rockshaft upon the bunter 1S carried by the layltl. This will be ythe action if-the shuttle has passed fully home into the shuttle-box at the replenishing side of the loom, between frontplate 21 and baeklwall 22, and consequently the bunter will engage the elevated dog' or latch and the normal working; in replenish- .mentwill takel place. In case` however, the .shuttle should not' be fully entered into the Said Shuttle-bon but should occupy an' in- Wardly-misplaced position, partly projecting' from .the 'mouth ofthe shuttlefbox, in which event the forward nrovenrent of the [lay will carry the inwardly-projecting poi` tion of the shuttle against the acting' end of.
'the shuttlefeeler, the said end will be pressed forward by the shuttle.- llnder such vaction the spring' 1l will yield to permit leveri l to'turn upon the pivot 3 connecting it wlth arm 2 as the shuttle-feeler is forced to swing about its pivot 9. This turning of the leverv Allaroundpivot 3 will carry the l lower arm of the lever downward, and in golng downthe Said lowel1 arm willswing down the dog orlatch 5 so as to depress the A.engaging end of the latter belowl the engaging* end of bunter 18, thereby preventing' engagement of the bunter with the dog or latch to actuate the transferrer as the lay goes forward..
In practice, the rockshaft 1 will be com# .bned ,operatively with any approvedweftdetector devices. so' as to 'be rocked under the Control ofthe latter. Such #devices may comprise either ordinary weft-fork mechadetection .o f failure of weft or filling, or
. may comprise mechanism contrived to cause the rockshaftto be rocked when the supply ofweft vor filling ,in the shuttle in use inthesloo'rn has become' depleted tothe predetermined extent. When thelbunter 18 engages with or latch tit drives the latter forward and causes the transferrer 6 to rock around its supporting stud 6a and transfer the leading- Weftfcarrier'to the shuttle. As one feature of the invention, I'construct the inter-engaging-elements Aof the dog or latch and the control armtherefor yso thatas the dog or latch. is driven forward by the push of the bunter thelever .l shall be turned upon its pivot 3 to thereby operate theshnttle-feeler "8 so .as ,to cause the working` end of. the 1 latter, at that. time occupying. the rearward I j the p1;essure.-;againsti the said surface. 1n thepresent emhodnnent of .this feature of the dog the? invention, thefslotted dertien ofthe= tf-continuitmanici-.the .lever 4 isfornied with is rocked in the .direction indicated by the arrow lnear it, the upward movement of theA slotted control arm causes the lower wall of the slot, by its pressure against ythe lateral projection or stud 4Saito tilt the dog or latch upward. The' tilting lof the dog-or latch upward carries the lateralv projection or stud f into a portion of the slot at the rear of the cani 4*. Willen now the bunter engages with the engaging end of the dog or latch and drives the dog or latch forward, the .forward movenient of the lateral'stud or projection causes the latter to act upon the cam l* and operate to depress the control arm` thus rocking the lever -l around its'pivot?) and through such rocking` of the lever transmitf ting' the-required movement to the shuttlefeeler to cause its acting endto travel forward in unison with the advance ot' the lav.
To further facilitate the forward receding movement of the shuttle-feder. l niav con struct and time the weft-hammer cani and .weft-hammer to permit the latter to drop olf the cam so as toallow the breast-beam rock-- "shaft to, recover its normal position sutliciently early inthe advance of the lay.
.To enable the controller-arm and its cam l* to be adjusted into proper working relations with the stud 5 of the transferrer-dog or latch, the stop 13 is constituted b v an ad,
justable stop-screw. the tip of which is presented to the back of lever l.
' I claim as my invention' 1. 1n a weft-replenishinp` loom, the conibinfatio'n `with an arm adapted-to be rocked vv through the action of weft-detector devices Meniployed lin such loom, a shuttle-feder,
