EMBROIDERING-MAQHINE.
Application filed December 31, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHANN JACOB KNEOI-I'r, citizen of the Confederation of Switzerland, residing at Schonau, near Chemnitz, in the Kingdom of Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Embroidering-'Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to embroidering machines and more especially to embroidering machines provided with a shuttle.
In sewing machines it is old to use curved shuttles moved by oscillating drivers substantially in a horizontal direction in curves situated in horizontal or vertical planes. It has proved impossible to simply transfer this arrangement onto shuttle embroidering machines for the reason that in the case of a horizontal movement neither a simple and reliable motion nor any desired relationcan be obtained without impairing the capacity of the shuttles, while in the case of a vertical movement the shuttles are not sure to catch the needle thread loops, as they are compelled to follow the vertical plane of the tissue and, unless being well guided, are apt to tip over.
My invention has for its object, in order to obtain a simple and effective shuttle driving device, to utilize the curved shuttles, hitherto used only in ordinary domestic sewing machines, in embroidering machines, at the same time avoiding the drawbacks mentioned above.
According to my invention the races of the curved shuttles, besides describing a convex curve toward the cloth plane, are also inclined in a direction transverse to such longitudinal curvature, thereby permitting shuttles to move in a substantially inclined Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Washington, I). C.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 16, 1915.
Serial No. 879,969.
Figure 1 is'a side view, and F ig- 2 a backview of the shuttle race.
The shuttlesQ are driven by the drivers 3 7 up and down in the races 1 which races have a convex curvature toward the needles 4: and are inclined laterally. It is thus rendered possible to move the driver bar by means of a shaft 6 having an oscillating and an axial movement. The shuttle races may either be cast or they may be pressed in one piece with the threadways.
I claim 1. In an embroidering machine of the shuttle type, the combination with a needle, of a longitudinally curved shuttle race, said race having a shuttle bearing surface inclined to the vertical, an elongated shuttle mounted in the race and above said bearing surface, and means for operating the shuttle adapted to follow the the purpose specified.
2. In an embroidering machine of the shuttle type, the combination with a needle of a longitudinally curved shuttle race having a shuttle bearing surface inclined to the path thereof, for
vertical, an elongated shuttle mounted in the race and above said bearing surface, and an axially movable oscillating shaft for operating the shuttle.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
