IMPROVEMENT IN KNlFE-SCOURERS AND SHARPE NERS. I

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,029, dated J une 20, 1871.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DA ID ORowELL, Jr., of Yarmouth Port, in the county of Barnstable, in the State of Massachusetts, respectfully show that I have invented a new and useful Device for Scouring and Sharpening Knives, Forks, Spoons, and other articles; and that the following is a specification of the same.

My invention consists of the combination of two cork-Wood rollers, placed in wood, or iron, or brass frame, as represented in Figure 1, which shows a front view of the machine.

A represents a whetrstone, which is placed in a notch or rack fastened either on the front orback part of the machine, and is of a sharp fine texture of stone, the notch or rack holding the stone-firmly, as represented in the drawing hereunto annexed. B, in Fig. 1, represents a piece of cork-wood placed on the end of the rollers O O. The convex, as represented by letter B, has a concave for the purpose of scouring the concave of the spoon. (J (l are the rollers, and are cork-wood, and are pressed close together with two spiral springs placed in the end of the frame, as represented by letter D in Fig. 2. The springs are placed in tubes and are secured by a bar across the top end of the machine, as represented by letter H in Fig. 1

The rollersO 0, represented in Fig. 1', are pressed together by the spring, and the knife is run through between the rollers and immediately receives afine polish from the brick-dust or emery, which is V placed in a'hopper or tunnel immediately above the rollers O (J in Fig. 1. The-rollers receive the brick-dust or emery from the hopper or tunnel, represented by letter F in Fig. 1. Letter G, in Fig. 1, represents a screw and arm by which the machine may be fastened toa table A or shelf, so that it can be put in working order.

Claim.

. What I claim is The combination and arrangement of the rollers O G, the extended roller B, scouring and sharpening devices A and F, journal-boxes with springs D, connecting device G with its gearing and crank to give motion, all as shown,

for the-purpose described.
