GEORGE C. IBEIDLER, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA.
DEVELOPING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 16, 1915.
Application filed March 23, 1907. Serial N 0. 364,016.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE citizen of the United States of America, residing at-Oklahoma city, in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Developing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to photographing and developing apparatus and particularly to means for exposing a sensitized film to light and for conducting the same through a series of tanks or compartments for the purpose of developing and fixing the exposed m. The invention consists in the details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention erence will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 illustrates a top plan view of an apparatus embodying the invention, a portion Of the top being removed to show the parts thereunder in plan; and Fig. 2 illustrates a vertical longitudinal sectional View thereof.
In these drawings A denotes a magazine for containing a roll of film and B a part of the casing through which film is drawn by the rollers C, C, and D denotes the main body of the casing of which the magazine A and chamber B are parts, as shown here in, although the inclosure or casing may be of any appropriate construction.
Within the casing, I mount two drums E and F so that they are free to rotate and I further provide receptacles G and H in O. BEIDLER,
in detail, refwhich the peripheries of the drums extend.
It is intended that the said receptacles G and H shall contain fluid which will act on the coated surface of the film and in practice, it is usual to place developing fluid in the receptacle G and fixing fluid in the re ceptacle H, so that .exposed film is first developed and then fixed.
A pulley I is mounted to rotate between the drums E and F, whereas a pulley J is mounted to rotate near one end of the casing and a pulley K is mounted to rotate near the opposite end of the casing and thesaid pullevs and the drums have conveying members and wheel T and this the said given length may bers R consisting of tapes, bands, cords, chains or other flexible devices capable of traveling in a circuitous route around the pulleys and in contact with the peripheries of the drums. Pulleys L and M are also rotatably mounted in the casing and engage the flexible members R constituting guides therefor, is a bracket 0 externally of the caslng in which a pulley N these weights hang below the flexlble mempull them downwardly so that a uniform tension is maintained on the several flexible members.
The shaft of gear wheel meshes with agear wheel T on one of the the rollers are driven to feed the film.
As a means for arresting the crank shaft S at each rotation, I provide the lever V having an arm '0 with a lug o in the path of travel of the said crank. The gear wheels and T are in such relation that the feeding rollers will be driven to draw a predetermined length of film, while the crank handle has been turned once, thus the operator may'know when a given length of film has en drawn from the magazine so that be proDerlv exrollers C so that.
the pulley P has a gear posed to light. By operating the handle Y, the lug v may move from engagement with the crank and the said crank may then be free to turn for further operation of the film drawing means and for the operation of the flexible members constituting the 'con-i veyers so that film may be carried through the receptacles by the drums and conveyers. The pulleys I and K are driven from the pulley P through the medium of two belts E E and pulleys, one of which E is on the shaft of the pulley I and the other ,ofwhich E is on the shaft of the pulley K. It follows from what has been said that rotation of the crank S to turn the pulley P results in driving the pulleys I, J and K, and as the flexible members R engage said pulleys motion is communicated to the flexible members and the flexible members carry the film with those portions of the drums that are in the fluid and serve, to effect the developing and fixing of the film, it being shown in the drawing that the said film, identified in the drawing by the reference character R, is rg'awn from the magazine by the rollers I claim- 1. In a machine relating to photography, a casing closed against actinic light in communication with means for containing a supply of film adapted to be photographically treated, means for delivering the after exposure from the means for containing a supply thereof to the said casing, a receptacle within the casing, a drum in the casing rotatably supported with its periphery extending into the receptacle, traveling members 'in the casing adapted to hold thefilm on the drum While the said drum is ro-' tated, and means for rotating the drum and operating the traveling members and the means for delivering the film to the casing in unlson.
2. In a machine relating to photography, a magazine for containing a roll of 111, means for delivering and cutting the. portion of the film exposed from the remainder thereof, receptacles for containing liquid, drums mounted to rotate in the receptacles, a pulley at the rear of the drums, a pulley at the front of the drums, a pulley between the drums, conveyers running over the pulleys and contacting with the drums, and weights on the conveyers for regulating the tension thereof. a
3. In a machine relating to photography, means for containing a supply of film, a cas-v ing in communication with the means for containing a supply of film, receptacles within the casing, drums mounted with their peripheries in the receptacles, means for feeding film from the means for containing the film to the casing, pulleys between the drums, traveling members .in the casing adapted to coact with the peripheries of the for. holding the films incontact with drums, thedrums, the said traveling members operating over the pulleys and carrying the film from one of the drums to the other, and
means for operating the rotatable parts of the device simultaneously.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature. in the presence of two witnesses this 15thday of March, 1907.
' GEORGE G. BEIDLER.
