Description
UNITED STATES vPATENT CFFICEp ALFRED MERRIMAN,OF PLANTSVILLE, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TC HIM- SELF AND FREEMAN CARLETON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN Mo'LnERs FLAsKs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,973, dated J une 13,1871.
I, ALFRED MERRIMAN, of Plantsville, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improveinents in Eye and Pin for MoldersFlasks, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of an improved article of manufacture-to Wit, an adjustable eye for the pin of a melders flask, said eye being adjusted by screws, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a side elevation of an eye and pin for molders7 -iiask embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 a
plan view of the under side of the same.
A designates the pin, and B the Walls of the socket which form the eye. The socket B and pin A are each attached to the usual ilange C, which is provided with screw-holes a et, by which the parts are secured to the flask. These are attached, an eye and pin, to each cndof the iiask in such manner that the pin A shall not come in contact with the side of eye or socket B which is nearest the iiask, as shown in Fig. 2. The socket B is provided with adjusting-screws b b, .so that the same may be driven inward and their ends bear on the outer sides of the pin A, as shown in Fig. 2. The pin being thus supported and governed upon opposite sides of the flask, the cope is necessarily placedin the same position over the nowel after being removed. By frequent use the outsides of the pin Wear so as to give the cope a little play, and consequently cause v a mismatch of the cope andnowel, in which case the screws b bare started a little inward,
so as to take up the wear and again bear against the outer sidesy of the pin on opposite sides of the iiask, thus readily adjusting the eye so as to insure a proper match of the parts of the flask.
The ordinary Inode of adjusting the eyes to properly fit the pins is to remove the screws Whichsecure one of said parts to the flask and if it be the pin that is thus removed, a paper or other thin material is placed under its iiange, and the screws again inserted, when the pin necessarily stands out further from the Y flask. If the eye be the part removed, athin shaving is taken from the flask at the point from which the'flange has been removed, so that when the eye is replaced the distance between tlie two outer sides of said eyes is reduced and they properly bear upon the pins.
By my invention the inconvenience and expense of removing the flange from the ask to adjust the eye and pin are entirely avoided, and a better-adjustment of the saine is effected.
I claim as my invention- As a new article of manufacture, the improved flask-pin eye, provided with theadj usting-screws b b, substantially as described, and Y for the purpose set forth.
'ALFRED MERRIMAN.
