Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1915.
Application filed August 24, 1915. Serial No. 47,163.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EARL FORSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rogerstown, in the county of Ochiltree, State of eXas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Grinding and Removing the Valves of Explosive- Engines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the.invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for removing the valves of explosive engines.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of the character named which will i e simple in construction, easily operated, efficient in action, and which can be manufactured at a comparatively small cost.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

The valve 11 is normally held to its seat by a spring 14 hearing at one end against the pin 13 and at its other end against the engine 10 all in the usual and well known manner.
he improved device comprises a bar 15 having fixed thereto adjacent one end an arm 16, said arm being disposed at right angles to the bar 15. Slidably engaged on the arm 16 is a forked member 17 including arms 18 and 19. Rotatably mounted in the bar 15 and extending parallel to the arni 16 is a lead screw 20 provided with Wings 21 for convenience in rotating same. This lead may be valve gripping tool 27 including spaced projections 28 adapted to seat in recesses 29 in the valve 11 and thus interlock the tool and valve so that rotation of the tool will efi'ect rotation of the valve.
In the use of the devicethe tool 27 is applied to the chuck 25 and the projections 28 engaged in respective recesses 29. The fork member 13 is forced beneath the spring 14; and above the pin. 13 with its arms in embracing relation to the stem 12. The screw 20 is then rotated to raise the member 17 on the arm 16 and thus relieve the valve 11 from the influence of the spring 14. The gear 23 is then rotated and such rotation Will be transmitted to the valve 11 to effect grinding of the valve. It will of course be obvious that the spring 14 will produce the desired pressure on the valve during the operation of grinding. It will be further obvious that the device can be utilized with equal facility to effect removal of the valve when desired.
What is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a bar, an arm carried by said bar adjacent one end of the latter, said arm being disposed at right angles to the bar, a forked member slidably mounted on the arm and disposed in a plane parallel to the plane of the bar, a lead screw rotatably mounted in the bar and having threaded engagement with the forked member whereby rotation of the screw will move said member longitudinally of the arm, a valve engaging tool rotatably mounted on the bar, and means for rotating said tool.
