Description

Further objects of the invention are to provide the surface of the ironing board UNITED sTATEs PATENT oE-EioE.
Specification of Letters Patent. l
Patented oet. 2e, 1915.
Application led March 6, 1915. Serial No.i12,513.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROMAN F. PoLsKI, a citizen of the United States, residin at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and tate of Minnesota, have invented .a new and useful Improvement in Ironing-Boards, of -which the following is a specification.
The primary object of this invention is the production of `an ironing board, which is particularly adapted 'for use for pressing clothes in such manner las to -absorb steam generated by a hot iron pressing the lclothes and for preventing shiny or polished surfaces being produced on the material by the pressing iron.
with a cushion, which will prevent breaking of buttons by the pressing iron, and also provide effective means for detachably securing a number of removable covers over the surface ofl the board, whereby a soiled or Worn cover can be removedleaving a fresh cover exposed foruse. v
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specificatiomFigure 1 is aplan f of my invention, part ofthe 'structure'being broken away; Fig. 2 isa section ofv a detail, and Fig. 3 is an edge elevation ofmy invention. j' y In the drawin A indicates the back of the ironing boar which is made of conven- .dient shape and of any, construction-forl ressing purposes. The .outer edgefofthis board is curved at the ends; and said 'edge is formed -with a Adownwardly and inwardly inclined shoulder Q'distanced below the surface 3 of the back. Placedy over the surface of the back is aiiexible permanent cove 4 y made'of cloth or othersuitableiiiexible a1 terial, said cover'beingstretched over a fill-v y in or packing 5 ofsawdu'st orothersuitab e 'dlsintegrated material formin f a' cushion and capable of readil fabsor ingg-, steam, said material being spre deut' over; 'u the entire surface ofthe boardandheldfirmly compressed bys'aid cover. The edge of the cover conformsto thefouter edge of the board, and is turned down over its edge and below its shoulderv 2;,saidfturn down 'portion being Vformedwith a. seamG containing a wire band .7,` which tightlylein braces the board and drawsthematerial' 1n, holding the cover stretched over vthe iilling4 material and preventing the sawdust with Ialso secured at the ed I lowin .best embodiment thereof, but' vention can in passing out. Theedge of tnecover is fasteners 8, which are riven into the ed j of the board immediatelyabove the band?, each of sald fasteners being formed withja of the board by head 9. Stretched orer'the' surface .of the y permanent cover 4' are a plurality of removable covers such as 10 and 11, each of which is formed. with .button holes 12. These removable covers have their edges turned down and gathered at the ends over i.
the edge ofthe ironing board and are detachab y Venga ed by the pockets thus formed by at ering and. by their IbLtton holes over t e heads 9 ofthe fastenersS.
By this means the removable covers can be removed or replaced from time to time when desired.
In use the material to be pressed is placed .i
over the board and a damp lcloth arranged' over the surface of the material in the usual manner.
During the Lironin operation, which follvwsz steam generate by the hot iron coming-1n contact with the Iwet or-A dampcloth passes throu h Ithe material to be ironed and is absorb by the saw dust.
This action prevents objectionable polished and shiny surfaces onthe material. `The wood saw dust employed maybe made from soft ine wood or othersuitable material,` the o ject bein substance, whicv 'quickly absorb steam, and which has the quality 'of performing to 1provide a disintegrated wi the function of a cushion to prevent buttons and like 'objects from becominv broken during the ironing operation, said iilling.

In accordance with the patent statutes, I
