NAP'KIN.
' Specicatioitof Lettera Patent.
Patented Uct.. 2d, 1915.
Application led August 7,1914. Serial No. 855,633.
To all whom it may comer/rt:
Be it known that I, ELrnnDA J. ConBIN, a citizen of the 'United States, and a resident of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Napkins, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the periods of menstruation in women, and the object thereof is to provide a catamenial bandage adapted for quick and easy cleansing.
A further object is to provide such devices in which a sack for containing absorbent material may be folded and arranged Within another sack against any possibility of accidental removal.
A further object is to providesueh devices which are composed of Washable and absorbent material, as Well as the' pad of absorbent material contained therein; and further objects are to provide such devices vwhich are simple in construction and use,
highly eiiicient, well adapted for the purpose for which they are intended, and comparatively inexpensive. r
My invention is fully described in the following specification, of which the accompan ying drawings form a part, in Which the separate parts are designated by the same 'reference characters in each of the views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device, ready for use; Fig. 2 is an enlarged View, in section, taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 5, in partially folded position; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 5; Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line of Fig. 5; and Fig. 5 is an open, plan, view thereof. f
In the drawings forming a part of this application I have shown a present preferred form of embodiment 0 my lnvention, comprising one piece of suitable material, preferably absorbent, cut and bent to form a pocket 6 by means of stitches 7 7,`
8 8, and 9-9, leaving an opening or slit 10, this being the main portion or sheath ofthe device, and l secure suitable means 11 and 12 at the ends thereof whereby said tion in Fig'. 2
device may be secured in position on the person of a wearer.
The remainder of the strip of material is bent or folded to form a pocket 13 and' `transversely on the lines 17 and 18, in-
wardly, and afterward folded on the longitudinal line 19, this step being shown in secafter which the resultant pad is folded waiiin au,4 pocket. 6, and a@ device is ready for use.
The pocket 13 is, as stated, adapted to receive a pad but this is not always'necessary, the said pocket itself, when folded, serving as the pad and rendering the resultant banda e less cumbersome, but this iso tional.
with t 1e user as will be understood, t 1e said pocket being provided to meet varying .conditions.
Itwill be seen that l thus provide a bandagev for the purposel stated which is easily cleansed, quickly secured and adjusted to the body of -a wearer, ada ted for use with or without a supplementa pad, and of low cost, and, while I have shown a resent preferred form of construction, I o not limit myself thereto, but .may make changes thereover, within the scope of the following claim, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or sacrificing its advan-l ta es..
avin fuilly described my invention, what I erim as new, and desire to secure lby Letters Patent, is :-,f
A device of theclase describedyconsisting of a strip of absorbent material having tl-shaped cuts formed in opposite'edges for approximately one-fourth the width of and ad]acent one endof said strip, the art on each side of said' cutsbeing doubed and t ship, the sides of the larger member being turned inwardly on lines at the inner ends of said cuts, and then folded along u' central line at right angles to the lines of said 5 turned sections, and the larger member, when folded, being tucked into the pocket of the smaller member.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of the subscribing Witnesses.
A ELFREDA JOSEIIIINE CORBIN.
