NUT-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Uct. 26,1915.
Application filed May 7, 1915. Serial No. 26,591.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES Bnssnn, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Minonk, in the county of Woodford and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nut-Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invent-ion has for its primary object to provide a simple and efficient nut lock especially designed for looking a plurality of nuts against rotation including essentially an attaching plate and nut engaging members movable longitudinally with relation to said plate whereby the locking members may be adjusted to co-act with nuts spaced various distances apart.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the improved nut lock applied to use in connection with the rails of a railroad. Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view through the nut lock. Fig. 3 represents a fragmental longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the attaching plate of the nut lock, which is provided with apertures or eyelets 7 adapted to receive the hooks 7 carried by the base or railroad rail supporting plate 6. A notch 8 is formed centrally of the lower longitudinal edge of the plate 5 and is adapted to receive a suitable tool, whereby the plate may be forced to the desired position with relation to the object 6 to which it is attached. Adjacent the upper longitudinal edge the plate 5 is formed with a plurality of longitudinal slots or openings 9 corresponding in number to the number of nuts 10 to be locked.
The locking members designated generally by the numerals 11 include the horizontal medial portions 12 and upstanding and depending angularly disposed ends 13 and 14:
respectively. The downwardlydirected porlock the latter against rotational movement. As clearly'illustrated in Fig. 1 each of the locking members 11 is provided with two rivets 15, which are slidably received within the corresponding slot 9 in the plate 5, whereby rocking motion of the locking members with relation to the attaching plate is prevented.
In the accompanying drawing the nut lock is shown applied to use in connection with the rails of a railroad for locking the nuts 10 of the bolts 17 which secure the fish plates 18 of the rails in position, but it will be understood that the nut lock is not necessarily limited to such use.
What I claim is:
1. A nut lock including an attaching'plate having a plurality of spaced longitudinal slots adjacent one edge thereof, a plurality of angular nut-engaging and locking members, and means rigidly secured to said angular nut-engaging and locking members slidably received within said slots.
2. A nut lock including an attaching plate.
having a plurality of spaced longitudinal slots adjacent one edge thereof, a plurality of angular locking members, and a pair of rivets rigidly secured to each angular nutengaging and locking member slidably received within each slot.
3. A nut lock including a base plate, a plurality of hooks secured to one longitudinal edge of said base plate, an attaching plate having a plurality of apertures receiving said hooks, and a plurality of nut-engaging and locking members carriedby said attaching plate.
4. A nut lock including a base plate, a plurality of hooks secured to one longitudinal edge of said base plate, an attaching plate having a plurality of apertures receivto engage onopposite sidesof the nuts 10 to ing said hooks and having a plurality of In testimony whereof I aflix my signature spaced longitudinal slots engaging the upin presence of two Witnesses.
per ed e thereof aplurality ofan ularnut- I 1 engaging and kicking members, 3316. means r CHARLES BDSSILR' rigidly secured to said angular nut-engaging Witnesses:
and locking members slidably received with- JOHN C. DANFORTI-I, in said slots. v J. A. MINGERS.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D 0.
