To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MEDICUS F. DAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belton, in the county of Anderson, State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable earings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. This invention relates to adjustable bearings for rotating shafts and particularly to bearings of this type for use in connection with the rocker shaftof looms.
It is a well known fact that as the bearings of the rocker shaft of a loom wear lost motion arises which interferes materially with the efficient operation of the loom.
It is therefore the object of this invention to provide an adjustable bearing adapted for use in connection with the rocker shaft of a loom whereby the wear imposed upon the bearing of the rocker shaft may be compensated for and the presence of lost motlon entirely obviated.
Vfith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details ofconstruction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in they several views, and in which- Figure l is a front elevation of a fragment of a loom, same being partly in section and disclosing the rocker shaft with the invention associated therewith; Fig. 2, an enlarged section on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a plan view of a fragment of what is shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. l, a detail perspective view of the adjustable bearing.
Referring to the drawing indicates the loom frame and 1.1 the floor or base supporting same. Journaledin suitable bearings 12 carried at each end of the frame 10 is the usual rocker shaft 13. Disposedv adjacent each bearing 12 is an improved adjustable bearing indicated generally at B. Each of the adjustable bearings B comprises a base plate 14 secured to the floor 11 directly beneath the rocker shaft 13. Formed in the 1 r 1 appeal. .llne bearing upper sides of the base plate 14 are recesses 15 and 16 for a purpose that will presently B further comprises a member 17 provided in its upper side with a groove 18 which receives the lower portions of the rocker shaft 13. The member 17 is provided with oppositely disposed ears l9 and 20 in which are engaged respectively adjusting screws 21 and 22 the lower ends of which seat in respective recesses 15 and 16. These screws 21 and 22 carry respectively lock nuts 23 whereby said screw may be secured against rotation. By referring.
to Fig. 1 it will be apparent that when the bearings 12 become worn so that lost motion arises in the operation of the rocker shaft 13 the screws 21 and 22 may be operated so as to raise the member 17 and cause the shaft 13 to hear at its upper side against the bearing 12 and its lower sid against the wall of the groove 18. in this way it will be apparent that any lost motion arising as a result of wear imposed upon the bearing 12 can be easily and quickly obviated by rotating the screws 21 and 22 so as to raise the member 17 and thereby bring the upper portion of the shaft into bearing relation with respect to the upper portion of the bearing 12 and the lower portion of the shaft into bearing relation with respect to the wall of the groove 18.
While the improved bearing has been illustrated and described in connection with a rocker shaft of a loom it will be obvious that same may be employed in other structures without in any manner departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.

An adjustable bearing comprising a base plate provided with means for attachment to a fixed part and having recesses in its upper side, a bearing block provided with a groove for receiving the lower portion of a shaft, and adjusting screws engaged through said bearing block on opposite sides of the groove and having their lower ends rotatably engaged in said recesses respectively whereby the rotation of said screws will raise and lower the bearing block relatively to the base plate.
