Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 12, 1915. Serial at. 33,783,
v v Patented net. 2c, 1915.
The opposed -faces of the panels '1 adJacent their upper extremities are provided with the supports 6 with which are engaged the extremities of the perforate screen 7 preferably formed of reticulated material of predetermined mesh; and of semi-circular formation in cross section, vsaid screen being disposed longitudinally on a predeter- 'mined incline with its vlower end portion provided with the laterally disposed extension-8 also preferably formed of reticulated material and coacting with the adjacentend panel 1 to aiford a disehargespout for the plantingseed.
The'upper plate 2 adjacent the elevated extremity of the screen islprovided with a feedopening 9 surrounded by a. hopper 10 of desired dimensions and into which the seeds to be separated are initially deposited as required. Operatively supported by the end panels ,1 and disposed through the chamber afforded by-the screen]? is the shaft 11, the opposite extremities of which extendv exteriorly beyondthe end panels 1, one
of said extreniitiesghaving secured thereto abalance wheel 12' while the opposite ex-' tremity is operatively' engaged a s at 14, with a suitable source of power, said power beinghereinv disclosed as a manually operated drum 15 engaged with the shaft 11 through the medium of abelt 16. I wish tostate, however, that it is not my desire to'llimit myself to anyspecific meansfor' ;imparting the requisite axial rotation to the shaft 11.
The shaft'll- 'i'ntermediate the panels 1 and substantially entirely bridging the space betweensaidipanels has affixed thereto a drum or roller 17' from which radiate thespirally arranged fingers or blades 18 which serve to'assure the requisite travel of the seed to beseparated downwardly over the screen 7 to the discharge spout thereof and, 1 as is believed to b e self-'evident, said fingers 'orblades 18 also serves vas an agitating means for the seednwhereb'y the reflected separation thereof'isl'facilitated. I alsbifind it of advantage to connect the upper side margins of the panels 1 by the str1ps"1 9 and to which is" directly secured'the longtudinal margins. of the screen 7, I alsofind y it of advantage to provide the end panels 1 with the supporting members 2.0 whereby the" samemay be effectively maintained in an operative position.
From the foregoing description," it is thought to be obvious that a separator constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively invention is susceptible of some change and modification Without material departure from-the'principles and spirit thereof and for this reason-l do notwish to be understood as limiting myself to the precisearrangement and formation of the .several {parts hereinshown incarrying out-my 15 vention in practice.
I claim: t A device of the class described compr1singra trough, including end panels extendingabove the trough proper, one of said end panels having an opening therein to afford a communication within the trough,
spout thereofv at its lower extremity, an
agitating means coactlng' with the screen element. S
y In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
