Description

1. F. OBRIEN. WINDOW CONSTRUCTION; APPLICATION FILED SIEPT. IEM- 1913;
Patented 00u19, 1915. A
wrmacw coNs'rnucrroN.
-BQ itlmown that I, Josu-Hr. 'omm residing at New York, N. ,Ya-haya invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Construction, of which the followingis a specification'.- -v
his invention rela-tes towindow constructions adapted particularly for, use on motor vehicles'.
The object of this invention is to provide a4 Windowconstruction vembodying a sliding sash or glass panel and- Whloh 1s simple 1n construction, neat 1n appearance, and 1s conwill -be eiectually excluded when the-sash is venie'nt`to operate. v The mventlon 4also has for an o bJect the 'provision of a construction 1n which' ram in closed positionl panying drawings, in which,-
Figure 1 is a longitudinal seetion'of a door-for alimousine. Fig. 2'isa section on the line 2-2vofLFig. 1. Fig. 3 :is an er1` larged' detail -section showing. aportion of the door frarneon. the sliding glass. panel in a closed position. Figa-is a section on the linedfief Fi'g.. 2. X I
' Referring to the drawings, 10-'indicates "-generally the-door'` frame which is provided with an opening 11, this openingv being.4
1 closed by means of a'sash'or glass panel12.
The side members of the frame are prol y vided with grooves 13 which are' preferably wider adjacent toV the middle portionv of the length thereof and the 'outer edges 14: -of whichv are `curved or bowed, as shown in rranged in the -grooves 13 are guides 15 having vlongitudinal slots: 16 for the glass panel 12. The guides are preferably covered with plush 17, as shown inv Fig. 4,
to. prevent rattling. The guides l'are secured at one point in. their length to the frame 1Q, preferably at the top, as indicated at 18, and are free to move laterally 'in the grooves 13 Vfor a purpose to'be hereinafter described.
At the lower side of thetopening 11 in the frame is arranged a vertically extending bar or ledge 1 9, and on the lower edge of the panel 12 is ametal plate 20 which is bent into a form having a substantially Sishaped dross section, the portion of this plate which engages the panel 12 being U-shaped, and there being a downwardly turned lip 21 on the Specification of Letters Patent.
The invention is illustrated in the accom- 15. Su'itablehandleor -finger rammed 0015.19, 19,15.
outer side. of the sash `which is adapted ing over pulleys 2 4 which are fixed at the top tof the frame' andthenpassing downwardly through slots 25 'in the frame to spring counter-balances 26.. The spring counter-balances 26 are merely indicated -on the drawings, these being a common article of trade and any preferred type of which may be `used. It will hev seen thatby this arrangement the panel V12 will be supported in any position to which it ismovecl in the guides pieces 27 may be provided on the vpanel' 12v to facilitate moving the same. y
Ars shown in F ig. 1, the panel 12iis freev to move up and down in the -guides 15, and the metal plate 20 wi'll'clear the ledge 19. Whenit is desired to secure the panel 12 the closed `position shown in F ig, -3 it is raised' to the -proper height andthen the lower 'end4 thereof is pushed outwardly to" engage the lip 21l lwith the ledge-19, in this position, .the guides 15 fitting the edge 14 of thev grooves in the frame 10 and making 'a tight joint therealon'g and 'the lip; 21 prea neat finish.l By having the" guides 15 securedat one point only, theyv are free to bend and draw upsuiciently to permit the engagement ofthe lip 21 with the ledge'19.
For .the purpose of preventing the panel 12 from` 'striking the top of the door'frame I have provided at either side of the frame a rubber bumper 28.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. Inga window construction, the combination of a. frame having grooves therein, the
- outer sides of which are bowed, substantially straight fiexible guides in said grooves 'having sash slots therein, a sash in said slots, and means at the lower end of said sash for# securing the samein one of its positions with said guides fitting the bowed sides ofsaid grooves.
2. In awndow constuotionfthe combina-- tionY of a'fra-me having grooves therein, the outer sides of which 'are bowedfsubztntilally straight ex'ible guides securedhll-fj one'v end 4in said grooves and having sash slots therein, a. sash in said As1oi;'s, ledge extending, across Said :frame prallel with the sashfand' means securedY to the loweg 'edge of the 'sash and adapted to engage sold-ledge toseouie ithe in ont?J of its positions with (ihres 1I guides fitt ing the'bowed sides of the grooves. In testimony 'whereof I a-xmy signature ihm-presence -o'ftwo Witnesses. y
