One of the many possible embodiments of the invention is illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings, in which I Figure l is a vertical longitudinal cross section taken through a handle constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof; Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section taken on line 33 of I Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a similar cross section on line 4 4c of the same figure; and Fig. 5 is a section taken through a modification of the invention.
In the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates a portion of a wall of a suit-case to which the handle is attached. The handle proper consists of a shell 11 of convenient cross sec tion, having offset sides or shoulders 12, that extend substantially along the entire bailshaped part of the handle. This shell may be made of sheet metal or similar material.
The shell is further provided with flat boxshaped end portions 13, which are angularly Specification of Letters Patent.

These flat end portions are adapted torestparallel tov and-upon; the wall 10 of the suit-case; lar 'material, forming with the first shell a body of substantially oblong cross section is secured, to the first shell by having its side portions 15 and 16 swaged upon thesides or shoulders 12 0f terminates in end portions 17 and'lS, formmg with the side walls 19and 20 of the end portions 13 of the shell 11 part of the boX- llke structures heretofore described. These flat ends are loosely held to thewall of the suit-case by means of loops 21 and 22, provided with lips 23 and 24, which are adapted .to receive rivets 25 and 26 for securing the loops to thesuit-case.
It, will be noted that the shells form a practically integral rigid handle, which can the same is secured to be completed before the suit-case. It may be suitably painted to imitate the general appearance of the sult-case, or it may be provided .with a leather cover, as customary in devices of this character. If desiredthe end portions of thehan'dle'may be directly secured to the Walls of the suit-case by suitable fastening means, whereby the loops may be eliminated.
The modification shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings differs from the one above described in that are formed in the shell 11 grooves 27, in which theredges of the side portions 15 and 16 of the shell 14 are disposed. 1
What I claim is 7 1. A handle for bags or suit-cases compr1sing.a rigid upper shell of bail-shape form provided with longitudinal shoulder portions of curved cross section,
and a rigid lower shell having upwardly bent longitudinal edges overlappingand reinforcing the entire shoulder portions of, said upper shell and forming with said upper shell a hollow body of substantially oval cross section.
