UNITED STATES GEORGE WOODS, OF GAMBRIDGEPORT, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPRVEMENT IN CABINETQORGANSV.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,671, dated June 6, 1871.
To all whom Ait may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE WooDs, of Oam bridgeport, in the county of Middlesex and State ot' Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement inCabinet-Organs; and I do hereby decla-re that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
My invention consists in improving cabinetorgans, as hereinafter described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a front, and Fig. 2 a cross-sectional view of an organ with my improvements.
A B C represent the case; D, the soundingboard; E, the projecting part of the frame, F, the legs thereunder; I, the music-rack; J, the trusses ofthe legs; II, avacant space; L, the cloth-screen; M, the lamp-slides, N, the slide-plates, and O,afasteningscrew. Instead of employing the fretted curtains on a separate perpendicular rack or frame behind the musicrack or desk l, for screening the vacant space K, as heretofore used, which makes it necessary to employ a separate music-desk, I propose to make a long rack extending from end to end of the case and apply the clothscreen L to the back of it, as shown, and inelining it backward suitably for supporting the music, thereby combining the two in one device in a more compact, simple, and permanent arrangement, in which the screen is supported wholly by Jthe music-rack, so that only one is used. M represents the lamp-stands or slides, which I propose to arrange so as to slide toward and from the front for shifting the light, as may be required. These slides are confined to the plate N by screws O passing through slots in it, so that they may be moved back and forth as may be required 5 but any other suitable ar` rangement may be employed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The music-rack I and cloth-screen L, constructed together in one device, and arranged substantially as specified.
2. The arrangement of slides M, plate N, and screws O in a cabinet-organ, as described, to allow of said slides being drawn out singly, in the manner described.
GEORGE YVO'ODS.
