To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Snuor ODABASHIAN, a subject of the Sultan of Turkey, residing at Worcester, in the county of lVorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Machine for Cleaning Metal Strips, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in machines for cleaning metal strips or wire and has for its object the overcoming of certain objectional features so as to render such machines safer for the operator to manipulate and further to provide proper facilities for the adjustment of the machine, to more readily accommodate the various Widths of metal strip to be passed through the machine for the purpose of cleaning the bur from the edges of said metal strip.
It might be stated for a more clear understanding of what my invention consists in, that the metal strips above referred to are formed by being cut longitudinally from a. wide strip, this operation necessarily leaves a rough edge or edges from which the bur must be removed by passing through a machine designed for the purpose.
Prior to my invention the metal strip or wire to be cleaned was passed between a series of files mounted on suitable blocks, said blocks being free to slide in grooves or guides arranged transversely on a table or bench, and also to the direction of move ment of the stock as it passes between the series of files. The blocks carrying the files were arranged in pairs, the file-faces of the blocks, of each pair, being opposite to one another. The stock to be cleaned was caused to pass between the series of pairs of blocks having the files secured thereto, the pressure of the files upon the stock being exerted by means of a tension spring extended across and attached to the blocks of each pair. Vith this arrangement no means were provided for the adjustment of the springs, such adjustmentbeing required with each width of stock to be passed through the machine.
The method used, was to change the length of spring as required, this operation occupied considerable time, and resulted in danger to the operator owing to the liability of the springs flying ofi'.
By a novel combination of parts I have overcome these objectional features.
In my invention use is made of files attached to blocks slidably mounted on a table or bench, between the several pairs of which, arranged in a series, the stock is caused to pass, all of which will be hereinafter fully described and more specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing 1 have shown my improved machine suificient to enable thoseskilled in the art to understand the'construction and operation thereof.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1, is a front view of my improved bur stripping machine, Fig. 2 is a top plan view of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4c is a section on line M showing the blocks arranged to round the corners of the stock.
In the accompanying drawing 1 and 1 are blocks mounted on bench or table 2 and arranged to slide transversely on said bench 2 between guide blocks 3 secured to the table 2.

5 is a hole substantially through the center of said blocks 1, 1 and the files 4:, r, into which the ends of the adjusting or guide rods 6, 6 extend, said rods act to guide the blocks in their vertical position.
The guide rods 6, 6 are adjustably secured to brackets 7, 7*, said brackets being secured to the table 2.
Encircling the guide rods 6, 6 are com pression springs 11 and 11, the inner ends of said springs bearing against the outer ends of the blocks 1 and l, the outer ends of the springs 11 bear against the inner side of the bracket 7 the springs 11 on the opposite side of the machine have their bearing against an angle bar 12, slidably mounted on the guide rods 6, the outer ends, of said angle bar, being provided with handles 12 whereby the pressure of the springs 11 on the file blocks 1 may be adjusted, by the operator exerting the required pressure on said handles 12.
Provided at the opposite ends of the angle bar 12 are guides 13 secured to the table 2, said guides being provided with a series of holes 1% for stop pins 15. By use of said stop pins 15 the angle bar 12 may be secured in any desired position after adjustment.
16 is a clamp having extensions 16 the ends of which form hinges by which said clamp is pivoted to the hinge bolts 17, said hinge bolts being adjustably secured to the blocks 3, the outer edge of said clamp 16 being provided with two or more slots 18 into which fit freely the clamping bolts 19, said bolts being secured in the bench top 2.
'20 are thumb nuts provided on the top threaded portions of the bolts 19 by means of which the stock being passed through the machine is clamped between the leather strip 21, secured to the under side of the clamp 16, and the leather strip 22, secured in a recess, in the guide blocks 3. By means of the leather strips 21 and 22 the stock is polished while passing through the machine.
23 and 23 are metal strips continuing the entire length of the machine, said strips being secured to the guide blocks 3. By means of said strips 23 and 23 the file blocks, 1, 1 are prevented from becoming displaced vertically during the removal of the guide rods 6 or 6.
30 and 30 are sheet metal covers extending the entire length 01 the machine for the purpose of covering the springs and guide rods, thereby preventing accident from broken springs flying out and hitting the operator.
Having thus described my invention, it will be evident that many changes and modifications may be made therein by one skilled in the art, without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, and I do not wish to be limited to the specific details herein disclosed.
