Be it known that l, FRANK H. (li/filoni, a citizen of the United States of America,
' residing at lient, iii the county otStephenson and State oi' lllinois,.ha.'e invented certain new and'useful improvements in rfoy Pistols; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.
This invention relates to toy pistols, and the primary object of the invention is vto provide a toy pistol which embodies a rotary indicating hand and adial which has a plurality Voi' numerals or diierent characters spaced in circles about the upper sur-v face of the dial, and to provide means for automatically rotating the indicating hand upon the pulling' of a trigger.
Another object of this invention to provide a toy pistol which has educating and4 amusing prcclivities.
fl/'ith the foregoing and other objects in' view this invention consists in suoli novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter i more fully described, illustrated in the ac con'ipanyin drawings4 and claimed.
In descri ing the invention in detail ref-- erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Y Figure 1 is a top .plan View ofthe iinproved toy pistol, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View through. thepistol.
Referring more particularly to the drawL ings, 1 designates the stock of the pistol which has a handle 2 secured to one end thereof and a dish:l 3 secured to the other end, upon the upper surface of which disk is mounted. a dial 4f. The dial 4 has its upper surface divided into segments, within which segments are positioned a plurality of indicating characters indicated at 5, which may he numbers or any other desired characters. r1`he stock 1 of the pistol has a pin 6 secured thereto, which pin extends upwardly through the central axis of the disk 3 and the dial il, and has an indicating hand 7 rotatably `mounted upon the section thereof which extends above the dial 4L. The hand 7 has a collar 8 secured to the u per surface thereof, .which collar is provide with a bore 9 which receives the pin 6, A bracket 10 is Specification cf Letters Patent. Pgmgngd Steph 28, 191.5% Application filed Merch l, 1915. Serial llo.V 11,299.
upwardly, as is indicated at 16,'-and extends outwardly through the disk 3 of the dial 4, when the pistol is in a loaded position. The
stock 1 is further provided with asecond cut-out portionor recess 17 formed therein,
,in which is positioned a spiral spring 18.'y
The spiral spring 18 hasone end secured to the stock 1, as is shown at 19, and the other rsk end extending upwardly through the disk 3 and the dial 4f and positioned in the path,...
of the indicating hand 7, andunder tension.
.The upper end 20 of the spiral sprin 18 extends upwardly through the 'slot 2l W ich is formed in the dial 4.
lIn .the operation of the improved` toy pistol, the end 2O of the spring 18 is forced upv tol: When it is desired to discharge the pis-y i.
wardly so that it will engage the edge of'lone end of the indicating hand, after Which the trigger 'l5 is moved forwardly in the direction indicated by the arrow A in Fig. 2 of the drawings, which forces the end 16 of the trigger rod 13 upwardly and into engage'- ment with the edge of one end of the indieating hand 7 upon the opposite' side from. i'
the edge engaged by the end 20 of the spiral l spring 18. This holds the end 20 .of the spi-ing under tension, and also the indicating hand 7 under tension, so that when the trigger 'l5 is moved in the direction indicated by the arrow B, or pulled, and the and 16 is moved downwardly within the recesses 23 which are formed in the disk 3 and dial el, the end 20 of the spring will lie'released'v from restrain, and will spring outwardly, forcing the indicating hand 7 to rotate about the pin 6. 1Vhen the force of rotation of the indicating hand 7 is spent, the indicating point 24 thereof will stop in one of the various sections into which the dial is divided, :iiid indicate the position ofthe .characters which are formed upon the section indicated by' the point 24, whereby a' child may be educated, and learn the numbers and characters in an amusing way, by being taught to pronouncev various characters lwhich are indicated hy the point In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features` ot' eonstructioincombination and arrangement'of parts may necessitate alteratiom to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are com' prehended within the scope of what is claimed.
lll-hat is claimed is:-
 1. ln a toy pistolT a stock, a handle formed upon one end ot said stock, a dial carried by the end of said stock remote from said handle, an indicating hand rotatably mounted .upon said dial, a spiral spring: carried by said stock and having one end extending upwardly through said dial Jfor engagement with said indicating hand, means engaging said indicating hand for arrestingY movement thereof and holding said spring under tension, and means for releasing said restrainingr means.
'2. ln a toy pistol. a stock. a handle formed upon one end of said stock, a dial carried lny the end o said stock remote from said handle, an indicating handl rotatably monntex upon-said dial, a spiral sprintf carried hy said stock and haringr one end extendingr up wardly through said dial 'For engagement with said indicatiingr hand.A a trigger rod pivotally carried hy said stock and havingV one, end extending upwardly through said dial for engagement with said indicating hand Jfor holdingi said springl under tension and arresting movement of said iinlieatingf hand.
ln testimony whereof l aiiix my signature in presence o't` two witnesses.
