The invention resides more particularly in the clip or connecting slide, the characteristic of which is thatl when once inserted into place in the rail, or other body, in which it is to be seated, it is thereupon and thereby automatically locked and held permanently in that position, incapable of further movement inany direction with reference to the said rail. This feature I believe to be new with me beyond its preferredY structural embodiment hereinafter described.
The advantages of the` invention are material. It permits the sections which are to;
be united to be finished and made complete before being assembled together, and it does away completely with the use of nails yor other extraneous means for fastening the clip or slide to its section, not only effecting an economy in laboras well as material, but also avoiding the damage to the screen rail which frequently is occasioned by the nailing operation.

To unite the cli with the rail A to which it is to be made fast, its base is entered, loop end foremost, intothev groove d therein from the inner end of said rail, and it is pushed forwardv therein until a detent e at the outer extremity oflthe clip brings up against the rail and prevents further inward movement of the clip. vThe base of the clip is provided with a second detent, at a point nearerits front, consisting in this instance of the outwardly extending, spring yielding, spur end f of the looped front of the base b, which bears outwardly against the side of the groove d and is spring yielding when the clip is pushed in, but at onceacts as a detent to arrest movement in the other direction. Thus after the clip has once been* pushed home into its seat in the rail A, its further lmovement will bearrested automatically and permanently by the two detents e, f, the former preventing its further advance, and the latter its withdrawal, andv the clip being secured iminovably to its rail without the employment of nails or other extraneous fastening means.v
' To assemble the screen sections, which before assembling are made complete excepting that the clips are yet to be applied, a clip is fitted by its head to each top and bottom section rail. A, the, clip being entered by its head into the groove d of that rail at the inner end thereof, and then run back in the groove until it brings up against the stile B of that section-the clip being so entered that its outerend, that is to saythe end where the detent e is located, will be next to, and bring up against, the said stile B., There is thus associated with each section. rail A. a clip, held therein by its head loosely inthe groove d in that rail, With its detentl end e outermost and next to the stile B; of that. The sections thus preliininarily associated with the eline, are as sembled by placing the one on the other-- Stile ends outermost and rails A overlapping one` another-there being sufficient interval left between the inner ends of the rails A. of the one section and the stile B of the other section to accommodate the Clips loosely aesooiated with the latter section. It is manifest that the construction of the clip may widely vary without departure from the principle of myfinvention.v It need not be made of wlre or in one piece; al-A though I prefer that construction on the score of ehicency, simplicity and cheapness. It can be made. of sheet metal, with head, base and'connecting neck of any suitable construction, whether made on one orA more pieces. What is essential, and what I believe to be new with me, is the. association with what I have termed the base of the clip*that is to say the part which is to be fastened to its rail-of ytwo automatically operating detents, the one permitting its entrance into the grooved rail, and its movement therein inwardly for a predetermined distance only, and the other permitting inward movement of the clip, but arresting outward or return movement, whereby the clip, having once entered the predetermined distance into the rail with which it is to be associated, is there automatically held in place against further movement in either direction,
What I claim therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,A is; y

In an extension screen, a connecting slide or clip for connecting the overlapping rails of screen sections, having a base adapted to enter and move in the groove in the rail with which it is to be associated, a detent associa-tedwith said base to. permit said inward movement of the base for a predetermined distance only, andA a Seeond detent also associated with said base,'which permits inward but arrests outward or return movement of the base, whereby said base, having once entered the predetermined dis# tance into. the rail with which it is to be associated, 'is there automatically held against further movement in either direction, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth. i
