To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, GEORGE J. SoHNEm n, a citizen of the United States of. America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stands for Sad-Irons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. a
The invention relates to supporting stands struction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is aside elevation'of a portion of a sad iron to which my improvement is applied; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough; Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the stand detached.
My improvement is particularly applicable to sad irons of that type compr sing a base section A and a detachable hood B, and with the specific construction shown these parts are locked together by a handle -member C, which is provided with a key shank D projecting through an. aperture in the hood and engaging a T-slot E in the boilg of the iron.
y improved stand comprises: a substantially U-shaped member F, preferably,
formed of wire and having its end portions G return-bent at H to form hooks for engaging the rear wall I of the hood. This rear wall is notched at. J to provide clearance for the bend -in thev hook above the readily engaged with the hood by slipping bearing of said wall upon the base A.
The construction. as described may be the return-bent hooks H upon the wall I and into the notches J thereof, after which the hoodis placed upon the base A and is locked inposition byturning the handle C. When the hood is thussecured, the stand will be held from disengagement, and by tilting the iron intothe position shown in Fig. 1 it will be supported with its heated g ortion free from contact with the. table;
he fact that the bearing of the stand upon the iron is limited to the hook portions H, and the further fact that the heat from the iron must, be conducted through the small cross section of wire having a relatively prevents all large exposed radiating area, danger of overheating the stan Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December a, 1914. Serial No. 878,105.
' 'What I claim asmy invention is I 1. The combination with a sad iron proyided. with a detachable hood, of a supporting stand for said iron having a hooked ongagement with the Wall of said hood.
2. In a'sad iron, thecombination with a Patented Sept. a, 1915.
base section and a detachable hood section ity to the base and notched, of a stand having a'hook portion engaging said hood from the loweredge thereof, the bend of said hook passing through said notch and retained by said base.
position by the base por- 4. In a sadiron, the combination with a base section and a detachable hood section,
of a stand comprising a substantially U- shaped member having return-bent hooksat opposite ends thereof adapted to engage said hood from the lower edge thereof and to be retained in engagement by said base.
5. In a sad iron, the combination with a base section and a detachable hood, of a stand comprising a substantially U-shaped wire member having return-bent hook portionsat its opposite ends for embracing the rear wall of said hood, the bends of said hooks engaging notches in the lower ed e of said rear base. I r
6. In a sad iron, the combination with a base section and a detachable hood section,
of a stand having a hook engageable with the rear wall of said hood'when detached from said base, said hook being retained by said base. a
7. The combination with'a sad iron com-' wall and being retained by said prising separable parts, of a stand engageable with oneof said'parts and retained in engagement by "the other. part.
11 testimon whereof I alfix in presence 0 two witnesses.
GEORGE J. SCHNEIDER.
